I know this isnt a forum for FJ600, it is a forum for its bigger brother but i need some help. I am in the the process of rebuilding a 1984 FJ600 and I am having some issues with the front brake assembly. I got the brake lever unstuck but I noticed the spring thats inside is stuck and the pin that drives the spring back and forth is also stuck. Any advice on how to free this up? Here is the link if what I am talking about. http://s1316.photobucket.com/user/jpere ... t=3&page=1

The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

See that snap ring in the bore (2nd pic)?

Get a pair of snap ring pliers and remove it, then you should be able to pull out the complete piston assembly.

As nasty as that looks, I'd count on getting a rebuild kit for it before reassembly.

If you still have the old OEM rubber lines, you should replace those, and strip out the calipers and inspect them as well, IMO.

I agree. Don't worry about not fitting in. You are in...  :good2:. From what I see if you want to fit in then that's all it takes. At the WCR there was an Aprillia, BMW, Harley oh and yes a smattering of red and white FJ's . I wasn't there at the time but I think a lost soul on an FJR was riding by and was ambushed by the group to join in. "Its not the bike, it's the members".  :good2: :good2:

As noted by "not a lib" take the master cylinder apart and clean it real good then put a kit in it. With the clip off it should come apart easy. Let us know what you find out and good on you for asking questions first.

Sorry about the bad link. I have already took apart the front and back calipers and have a kit on the way for them. I planned on replacing the OEM lines as well. I will get a set of snap ring pliers and remove the piston. I will look on the net for a kit before I reassemble.  Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

The front brake master cylinder is the same on the FJ600 and FJ1100/1200's. Here is a link to a rebuild kit from Randy at RPM. He is a member here.

So I am trying to remove the pin thats stuck in my master cylinder but I cant figure out how to remove it. Theres no bolts or anything to take it apart and the only way it looks like it can come out theres a ring with four tabs that looks likeits blocking it. Does anyone know how to remove this?

aviationfred

To the best of my knowledge. Remove the clip and all the pieces should pull out. If it is completely stuck and will not come out. I have 2 spare OEM front calipers that worked just fine when I removed them. If interested PM me.

I believe you are referring to the snap ring. you will need a pair of snap ring pliers to remove and then reinstall. just take the MC down to your local parts store and they should be able to sell you the correct pair needed. they are not expensive

Alright I will go to the auto parts store and see what they have. Thanks.

Unless they're the OEM '87 1200 calipers, I don't think they'll fit the FJ600... not even sure then.   :unknown:

Thanks for posting that. I missed stated what I had. I meant, I have 2 OEM front brake Master Cylinders.

The 84' FJ600 and 89' FJ1200 front brake master Cylinders are the same part number.
