Has any one tried welding a flange on to run a muffler from another bike?

Thinking about a alternate muffler to replace my vhr can, I can buy stainless mufflers for gsxr and others for a lot less but I would need to add a flange to attach it, just wondering if anyone has tried that.
Or I am going to try to repair my vhr can, but its got pretty bad road rash on outside edge and I dont have the funds for a different exhaust over 50-60 bucks or 75 tops and thats a stretch

Just put on whatever cans you want to run, and have a muffler shop make up some SS mid pipes to fit 'em.

James W is running OEM 'Busa cans on his '89.

That's what I'm planning to do, adding a SS midpipe with a flange from a hayabusa.  Have a Yosh bolt-on for it once that's done.

Thats what I will probably do, although I will most likely make my own flange and weld it on in regular steel.
I assume there is a doughnut gasket that goes in between pipe and the muffler?
