Hi guys.
I'm setting up my to do list for this winter,  and can't seem to figure this out.

I am doing the FZR rear wheel mod, and will need to replace the rear brake disc. I had saved a thread were there was info on different comonly used disc for this mod,  but i cant find it again.

Some manufacters list their disc compatible with both.
But fj disc is 282mm and fzr discs i have seen fron 242 to 264mm

Might someone who know please enlighten me?

Thanks
Ken

Use the FJ disc unless you are going to alter the angle at which the caliper sits.
If you want to satisfy your curiosity make up a couple of templates of the discs from cardboard and put them in position on the wheel.

What year and model of FZR wheel do you have?

Fred

Its a 1989 17 "x5.5".
I have seen vendors with discs stated to fit bothe the fj and the fzr. The yzf600 too for that matter. But there is a huge difference in tje OD from some of them as mention above.

Are you running your yzf wheel with the yzf caliper? Hows the mounting compared to the fj caliper?

So what your saying is, if i stick with the FJ caliper i will need a disc for the FJ, and vise versa?

I havent planed on replacing the caliper though.

Ken,

Another thing to pay attention to is the slot in the caliper must match the thickness of the brake rotor. Your FJ caliper has a wide slot to match the vented stock FJ rotor, you do not want to use that caliper with the thin FZR or YZF rotor. You do not want the brake pad backing plate to jam in the caliper as the pad gets thin.

Ken, I'm using the same wheel you are wanting to use, and I'm running a Galfer rotor made for the FJ.
Works great, and fits as it should.

Thanks for the tip you guys! :good2:

The FZR disc seems to bee needed only if you change the caliper (to FZR) and chang it's location.
Otherwise FJ disc will do the trick  :yahoo:

Leon, how much did you pay for that Galffer disc, if i dear ask?

Cheers

I think it was in the $150 range, and it came with their own recommended pads too.

Picked up my fzr rear wheel from the paintshop yesterday. Nice and white as the front

New rubber, chain, sprocket and brake disc is on its way too...
Now the only thing left is to find some spare time to mount this sucker :good2:
