Hello to all of you. New to FJ and to Yahama, was always a Suzuki kind of guy.

I am from Montreal, Canada and I just picked up a 1989 FJ1200 for 350$ with 90 000 KM on it, engine, tranny works great... the front suspension will need to be fixed... spring, seals etc.

fairing in fair shape... will be a nice winter projects.

any comments on the timing chain ? is it good forever ?

Welcome Beast, you found the best place for your FJ. With the amount of experience here there is nothing that Can't be fixed on you FJ. Look up Randy at www.rpmracingca.com he is an FJ owner (his wife has her own as well), a Yamaha dealer, Legends builder and racer. Since you are rebuilding your forks you might consider Randy's fork valves. I  installed a set and they are awesome. Plenty of good riders here that love them. Find your self an FJ rally and meet some of the crazy people here that make this a really good forum. Post up pics, we love to see and hear about everyones projects. Cheers.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

John.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in an attractive & well preserved body...but rather to slide in sideways, body completely worn out and and with your last dying breath screaming, "HOOOYA LIFE, lets try that again"!!!

thank you all for the warm welcome... be sure that I will use your knowledge and expertise during our long Canadian winter. Will have picks soon, just started to remove the fairings to assest the plastic I have to fix.

:drinks:
