Dean, Dan, Bill - I just changed you 3 back to the old site.  Please let me know if this fixes the problem for you so I can figure out FOR SURE that it is the new website files that are the problem.

I honestly can't find anything wrong in the code whatsoever.  I have a couple small code tweaks - but I don't think they will make a difference.

It's not happening here at work, which, from what I'm to understand, has firewalls coming out the ying-yang...

If that helps,

Dan

Dan - please test when you get back home and see if the old website look gives you the error.  Thanks!

Marsh White

NEVERMIND!  It's happening to ME right now!!   :good2:    I went back and forth changing the website back to the old version and it was still happening there!  That is a YAY to me!  This means the problem is NOT related to the website code or files - it is a Server / Hosting Provider problem.  In other words...it's not MY fuck-up!

Dan, Dean, Bill: I will change you back to the new forum now.  Now I get to check server error logs and talk to the hosting provider about concurrent connections, database queries, bandwidth, etc.  FUN!

Marsh White

Okay, I changed some server settings.  It seems to be working now - although it appears to have reset the "Unread" button from the time I made the changes (ie: there will still be old posts you have NOT read NOT show up from this time forward).  So - please test and let me know if this is still happening to you - either working or not.  Thanks!

No change, but thanks anyway.

Clicker finger still not tired. :good:

Working from home now Marsh.

You're the Man!!

Thanks,

Dan

nope, no change.  i even logged out, and logged back in (hadn't gotten to your discovery yet, marsh, thought it was something on my end), and that didn't make any difference...

Firefox V3.5.3, Mcafe Firewall.  If that helps at all.

Dan

Same as what I have here, no problems.

it appears that if, when i go to fjowners.com site, and i'm not logged in, then when i do log in, it finds my unread posts.  however, if i go to the site, and i've already been logged in, presumably i didn't log myself out from last night or whenever, it does not find any unread posts, despite there obviously being some since my last visit.

The solution is simple:

Hmm..., link doesn't work for me either, stupid Yahoo, no wonder no one likes their groups.

Except for George.

Actually, I like the format on Yahoo much better.  I can just keep hitting the NEXT button rather than:
Clicking Go UP,
Then, Scroll up because the Go Up command does not take me all the way up so I can Go Back
Then click back to the General Category,
Then Select another category,
Then Drill down,
Then reverse back out again
All of this takes significantly more time to navigate than simply hitting the NEXT button because it sometimes takes forever to load reload all the the new windows.

And at least half the time I get the dreaded "Cannot Load The Requested Page" error
Which requires me to abort out then start all over.
Only now, I don't get the nice color codes and "NEW" message so I can tell what I've read and what I haven't so I have to look for the date/time of the last post to see if there's something new.

But that's probably just me.

Marsh,
Please don't take any of that personally.  I really like this site, the people and the information.  It's just more awkward to use and that's NOT your fault.
