Yes I was beginning to form that opinion because it was being put out there on another forum that this was not supposed to happen and that it was an fault with the bike. Correct in many ways because of age and corrosion but neverthe less present on my bike in spades..disappointing and shocking to say the least.

Chiz, I still think you're missing the point a bit here. It is NOT a design fault specific to the FJ.   Losing voltage across the system is to be expected on ANY vehicle not running relays. It is NOT FJ specific. These guys on the other forum seem to have got into your head.
If anything, it was the era in which they were built. It was not common to use relays on everything back then. There are thousands of FJ's and other bikes out there that will run those sort of voltages their entire life without a problem, the owner's blissfully unaware. Everything still works, just a little sluggish.

To describe it as "present in spades" and "disappointing and shocking to say the least" is ridiculous.

I'm not just defending the FJ , it happens on all vehicles, cars are worse. THAT IS WHY MODERN ONES HAVE RELAYS RUNNING EVERYTHING. Look it up on the net, it is not make/model specific.

Ever tried to run something with an electric motor under load (mains power) from a very long, thin extension lead?

These guy's are either winding you up and having a bit of fun at your expense or they have no idea what they are talking about.

Just went to lock the garage and checked a few random points around the front of the bike's wiring while there. 9.9v was the best I could find (with 12v at the battery) probably been like that forever, doesn't matter. That's why I have relays to power all the important stuff. I have other cars and bikes there that show the same thing.

Knew it wouldn't be long before the ribbing about the BSA would start we all have crosses to bear I can take it. Any way it is still disappointing with only a few feet of wire and a few connectors that this situation is so noticeable. I guess my electricity supplier is on to it as well as I got a letter from them recently telling me that they will be bringing charges for LINE LOSS,  how ffed up is this

I belong to the "other" forum and yes a few of the folks over there think it is a mortal sin to do the ignition relay mod. These are the same folks who have no problems changing OEM tires to modern, OEM exhaust systems to an aftermarket system and even swap out OEM forks, wheels and swingarm for late model sport bike bits. If you understand the relay mod, do it. It works, it is cheep to do and it is reliable. I've installed power relays for the last 30 years and never had one fail.

MOD is done and installed and by gum there is 12v at the coils it works. 87A off the pigtail is live all the time so I put a wire nut on it.  Your right about other forums there are some sticklers there for sure.
