I actually found a set of yamaha's  and also a more oddball one on ebay, just not sure on fitment for the oddball one.

From the previous owner it seems as though once you flop the fj over, the brake pedal  devours the clutch cover, I have 2 spares with nice holes in them

another vote for the renntec's..... a tipover= no holes in the clutch cover with them in place.

But they are $172.00

That's a bit ridiculous

they are more now than what i paid for mine but i would still buy them again in a heartbeat.....

couple of questions you need to answer for yourself.......while pinching pennies AND trying to protect your investment.........

1) how much is a spare clutch cover?

2)Are you gonna carry it around with you while out riding?

3) how much will the tow bill be if your bike accidently tips over (or an unintentional dismount occurs) and all your oil runs out on the ground?

4 ) question 3 + in the middle of nowhere...... with no cell coverage???????? :flag_of_truce:

5) who will you send the bill to when a dog (canine) runs over your bike while driving a uninsured pickup truck thru a gas station parking lot?...tipping your bike over so the brake lever punches "the" hole..... oh yeah oil on the ground there too......renntec engine bars would have prevented a rather large fiasco in that case.

some bonus information for ya....i low sided with mine on and they kept the bike from smashing my ankle as well..... a little sanding and black paint and the Renntecs were back and ready for action..... so they are also durable.

come to a FJ rally and you will see way more FJs with the renntec engine bars than you will see without them...... but thats not a selling point it just means we have some smart (ass) owners

it has been my experience that the good shit costs extra for a reason..... it's worth it!  :good2:

+1... and a side benefit that I hadn't counted on is that the bike seems noticeably more solid with them on.

FWIW, once upon a time we had a group buy on the Renntecs.

Well, I guess I will go with the renntecs as soon as I can afford them. I wont be riding until then anyway, too much other stuff to do on the bike

Make that 3 votes for the Rentecs.
Yes, I bought mine thru the group buy.
The are EXCELLENT........ my story..... fitted them on a Thursday, went for a ride the next Sunday and high-sided......... not a mark on the engine at all.......same can't be said for the cosmetics or the rider!

Go Rentec..... they are very strong and easy to make them look right again after a dismount.

My 0.2c

+1 on the Renntecs.  My bike went sliding down the highway for about 20 or so yards on the bars.  Flattened and blued the bars, but no harm to the engine.  Picked the bike up and and rode it home.  (add in an adrenalin rush and rush hour traffic, and it wasn't quite as simple as that).  Sanded and painted the bars and they're still on there.

Or when some dumb ass uninsured driver runs into your bike as you are getting ready to load it up for a big trip out west. The engine bars saved my bike from additional damage. They are well worth their cost IMO
