Hi all... After buying my first FJ (although wanting one in what seems like FOREVER), I have a trip planned out west from the Great Lakes Region. Curious if anyone has found a way to mount some highway pegs to the frame? I did a search and didn't quite find the answer i was looking for on here and the internet didn't really find me anything either. I know its kinda counter to the riding position and one can always move their feet to the passenger pegs, but I was thinking it would be nice once and awhile to stretch them forward.

Thanks... i would appreciate it! Also if you have any pics or 'where to buy'.... this trip is coming fast (15th) and i would love to try something.

Hello Mark, welcome.
Yes, a few FJ'ers have highway pegs. The only way I've seen it done was mounting them to some Renntec bars.
Renntec bars are aftermarket engine bars which also, along with a mounting place for your highway pegs, offer superior crash protection for the engine side cases.
Go to the Vendors Section, find the RPM website and you can order these bars for your FJ.
Sorry, I'm on my IPad so I can't give you a direct link...

When you get a chance Mark, hop on up to the Introductions Section and tell us a bit about yourself.

Hope this helps.  Pat

Yes I'm in the process of putting some on mine. I'm going to put them on the upper engine mount. I'm going to use some spare engine mount plates. Turned upside down and backwards. They have the perfect angle built into them and have the bolt holes already drilled in the right place. And use some spare passenger pegs I have.

My brother just bought an fj with them mounted to the lower engine mounts.

Or you could buy the crash bars from Randy and mount pegs to them.

Dan, that's one hell of an idea! Very cool.

Can you take some pictures and do a write up for us?

Here is the crash bars that Pat is referring to. But if adhere to rule #1 you don't need them.

Murphy laughs at Rule #1

If you ride, it's just a matter of time....

Mark, you did not specify what model of FJ you have so be advised that there are 2 different models of Renntec bars so choose accordingly.

I really like Dan's idea. I can see it working on the '84-'90 FJ's.
I am unclear if it will work on the rubber mount FJ's

Thanks everyone for the prompt replies. I have a 90' FJ that actually was imported to Canada but built for Japan! The only real difference is you can completely turn the running lights of just above the starter button.
I will look at both options closely but i will admit i do like the ease of just getting some extra mounting brackets... longer bolts etc.

Thanks.... and the more pics the better!

Yes I will. I just cannot get the hang of posting pictures. Every time I think I have it, it doesn't work . Could be  because I'm using my phone.

A little off track but "finallygotone" states that it was built for Japan. Curious is the speedo primarily marked in KPH ? Also were there smaller intake manifolds for the Japanese models ? Inquiring minds.

I thought that I seen an FJ speedo with just kmh markings on it. I think it was on a Japanese e bay site? A seperate switch for the headlight would be nice. Looking for another switch :).
Been thinking about buying a Honda GL 1800 clutch master cylinder because they have a nice optional switch block that mounts on top of it. Use the switch's for driving lights, heated grips, etc..

My other two fj,s had/have the standard kmh speedo,s ,, optinal switches would be nice, I tapped into the pass light switch on effie , so that's now the  air horn switch ,,,,,,

Just had a look at the honda switches , great set up, also available for the  brake side too

Yes George, Japanese domestic models had KPH speedo which went to 180kph only, and the intake manifold diameter is only 28mm.

That will something for "finallygotone" to investigate or at least be aware of if it was built for the Japanese market. Thanks Harvy.  :drinks:
