Mmmm, I've had this item on watch on and off for the last few months. The seller has quite a lot of leather jackets/pants/suits etc, certainly not expensive.
1.4mm hide, double nylon stitching etc, the specs sound ok and are more or less individually measured. You can get the jacket only for $225.00 or the full suit for $325.00. I was looking at a set of Draggin jeans, ($269.00) but I've never owned a set of leathers, might be time to try them.

I'd love to hear if anyone has looked at the cheaper leathers and what you thought. With the amount of parts I'm buying for the FJ, plus I've just bought a new Shark S700 helmet, theres not a lot of money to throw around. Heres the link   http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/250589505416?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Thanks for any opinions,

G'day Ray, I have a jacket that looks very similar to the one in the ebay add. Can't say if it's the same brand or not but probably came out of the same factory. Most of the lower priced leathers are produced in Pakistan or nearby countries. I haven't had the misfortune to test mine out so I can't comment on the crash testing of it but I can tell you I don't feel confident on the bike unless I'm wearing leathers. I own a pair of kevlar jeans that are almost as new because I never wear them. I also own a leather jacket and matching leather pants, with AGV tags on them, which are made in Pakistan. This combination has matching zippers, so they can be zipped together, which is great in colder climates (shouldn't worry you too much), I would recommend this choice over buying a one piece suit.
Having said all this, I'm sure most of the textile jackets and pants offer great protection but in my opinion, nothing feels as secure as leather. Regards, Pete.

Thanks Pete. Yeah I was thinking this 2 piece type of suit would be good so you can just wear the jacket/jeans on short trips, and use the whole thing for longer rides, (like to Jindabyne  :yahoo:).  He has good feedback for his goodies so would probably be worth it. I have to put my parts order in with Randy first though.  :drinks:

Yeah guys I`ve been watching this thread with interest. I too am in the market for some new attire (incl helmet). I like separate pieces with the option of zipping together - but have an eye out for a second hand one piece for compliance at the superbike school.

No matter what I wear, I make it look good anyway! - So I only care about keeping me looking this good, should Newtonian Law dominate on a ride.

I`ve talked with the guys at the various bike shows and am still concerned at the lack of factual info on the Pakistan leather products. I thought a cow is a cow! Right? Zippers all seem to be similar. Stitching? Even if similarly positioned for strength I want to know the material used.

Unfortunately I don`t like the look of my bank account lately - but the cheaper leather feels less pliable - might be a bad thing - I dunno! ...That stuff Dean wears doesn`t last too long!
The old saying "you get what ya paid for" doesn`t account for marketing costs too well...so this jury is still out.  (popcorn)

Ok, I've gone and done it. I was still looking at the $350.00 2 piece leathers on ebay, nearly ordered a Perrini 2 piece and then I saw these. Made by Storm Leathers, (Pakistan), they were certainly the right price. How does $60.00 for the pants, $80.00 for the jacket and $30.00 for the gloves sound? The lady (Dale) who owns the ebay store is having a half price closing down sale, talk about bargains. Luckily she is Brisbane based so I visited her warehouse, tried 'em on and walked out with them, (after paying of course).

The jacket is very thick, slighly stiff and has a removable liner, she also has jackets that aren't as lairy if bling isn't your thing, and they zip to the pants. The pants are a good fit, and straight away I felt much safer if I was to jump on the FJ instead of just wearing jeans. Even though these are cheaper leathers, there is double stitching in all the right places, armour all over the jacket and pants, Velcro attached sliders, I was impressed with the quality.  Just have to get some new boots now. Will get stuck into the leathers with some conditioner and make them a little more supple.

Now, I'm just enclosing these photos as a community service, so no tittering out loud please, .   Mark, (FJ Monkey), has the blue Power Ranger spot been taken yet??

wow, you cut quite a figure in your leathers ray, well bought, i got a couple of leather jackets from her about 4 years ago, that black one i wear everywhere is one of them, i should contact her and drive down a get a couple of things before she shuts up shop, thanks for the heads up on the sale, ken

ken65

forgot to add ray, my jacket was board like at 1st, but is now soft, the zipper on the front broke, just the bit that you grab onto, i have a bit of wire on that now, its actually better cause i can zip up or down while riding along, the velcro bit where it covers  the zipper at the bottom dosnt stick anymore either , but remember ive used them nearly everyday for near on 4 years, would i recommend them , yes,  none of the stiching has come apart,  ken  , PS , if id only used them once a week, its probably equivalent to 30 years of use..

Mark, (FJ Monkey), has the blue Power Ranger spot been taken yet??

Looks like you got a great bargain on a set of proper gear and joined the Power Rangers at the same time. I think the "R" is in reference to Yamaha's R1 & R6 flagship sport bikes. I think it works just as well for Ranger. Once you have the proper gear, wearing anything less make you feel naked and vulnerable on the bike. And the only people that seem know this have the proper gear. On my last few rides I have seen where the proper gear prevented damage/injury and where a lack of it allowed damage/injury. Good to see one more geared up and looking sharp on his FJ.   :good2:

I'm pretty sure you are right about that Mark. There were some other jackets with R1 and R6 on them, didn't want those of course. I might just get a couple of small leather "ay" patches made and sew them after the R, then I know they are my leathers, lol.

Ray

Harvy

Ray, you could always do as Darran did on his RJay bag - just use a felt marker to add the "ay" instead of altering the R to look like an "F" as Darran did.
