Sam Harris is a thought provoking writer, also a very complex and divisive character.

"QUOTE"
"Forty-four percent of the American population is convinced that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead sometime in the next fifty years. According to the most common interpretation of biblical prophecy, Jesus will return only after things have gone horribly awry here on earth. It is, therefore, not an exaggeration to say that if the city of New York were suddenly replaced by a ball of fire, some significant percentage of the American population would see a silver lining in the subsequent mushroom cloud, as it would suggest to them that the best thing that is ever going to happen was about to happen—the return of Christ. It should be blindingly obvious that beliefs of this sort will do little to help us create a durable future for ourselves—socially, economically, environmentally, or geopolitically. Imagine the consequences if any significant component of the U.S. government actually believed that the world was about to end and that its ending would be glorious. The fact that nearly half of the American population apparently believes this, purely on the basis of religious dogma, should be considered a moral and intellectual emergency. The book you are about to read is my response to this emergency..."

Genesis - Back in N.Y.C (original)

PS.......I've read that 28 percent of Aussies believe that AC/DC really stands for Anti Christs/Devils Children...and that life is just a "Highway to Hell".....so why bother to turn around..... :diablo:

He QUOTED Sam Harris' expressed and published words. K did not express himself, though he obviously agrees.

I haven't read Sam Harris' book, but I did google  "The end of Faith" and it returned an 8part vid clip speech of his that I listened to last night.  I can't say that I've been converted to his need to challenge all expressions of faith and dogma, no matter how benign, yet.  It has put further inquiry and reading on my list of things to do.

You're a great man Arn........and I hope to have the pleasure of your company one day.....so sad that I couldn't make this years rally....my wife lost her mom back in January...and leaving her to go and enjoy myself just...well ....I just couldn't do it.....hopefully next year  .......for me.....it was exactly as you said b4........everyone has the right to believe what they want and should be able to do so in peace. Kman can be an Atheist if he wants...that's his choice..I have no problem with that...but he should have the common courtesy to allow others to have their opinions and beliefs without being attacked....that was sort of where I was trying to go.......wasn't trying to start a theological debate. My faith comes from personal experience....not the TV......and I don't have to stick a fork into the wall socket to find out if electricity is real....it is naked to the eye....but we still see it's power and know it's there....to a child though...I suppose it would appear to be "Magic" ..........keep on shining brother......
