Yes - I have seen your track pics as of late - I'm sure I would need you on the 600 handicap for me to keep pace with you now...

Well...we have gone off-topic like usual...but at least you can practice your track skills on that FJR...since it has NO cornering clearance.  You are required to hang off it to get any kind of speed through the corners...   The second corner I ever took on one I scrapped the shit out of the peg.  I asked the owner (who was the previous owner of my 89 - and who had thousands of $ of mods on his FJR - including a bling bling Ohlins rear shock) if he had ever scraped his pegs on it - to my astonishment he said no.  Shocked the shit out of me - since I couldn't take gentle corners without them touching down.  I told him that he has now!!  He wanted me to buy his FJR - I declined on that basis.

However - I know Dean must do well on his FJR cuz he hangs off anyways...I don't really do that though...   (makes me wonder about Henry and his FJR - since I don't recall him hanging off of his FJ)  I'll have to convince LA Mike to let me tag along on some track days so I can hone up that skill...

I installed a set of dogbones on deans that changed the whole attitude of the bike (Eric N also has a set) They raise the back of the bike appx 40mm (15 or so at the seat) at the axle and I think they do wonders for the handling. Way better clearance and the bike felt about 50 lbs lighter. On my usual test loop I could scrape pegs at will with the stock pegs. It was not an issue with the new dogbones. I still have the drawings if you have a machine guy. 1 of mine is too busy to do a set and the other decided to raise the cost beyond what I was willing to pay.

Bill,
Any chance of getting a copy of the plans?  I routinely scrape, usually putzing around the local traffic circle.  Haven't been on any really tight roads yet, mainly big sweepers.  Not sure if my stubby legs can handle another 1.5" of seat height.

And no worries on the files!

Greg March had done something similar.

FYI... I no longer have the original data for those stats, but you are more than welcome to copy the information from my wiki. I can also give you the wikitext directly if that is easier.

its only about 15-20mm at the seat. Suck it up. I attached a PDF of the file below. It is drawn at 6mm but 1/4" mild steel stock will work just fine.

Bill,
Thanks!!!  I know when I tried out the suck-ass stock seat, I was at the edge of comfort on the tippiness factor.  I can give the dog bones a try, at least.

shorter dog bones give you +/- 1/2" at the axle for every 2mm. This equates to about 1/4" at the seat per 2mm of change. 6 mm is the maximum you can go and still use the centerstand for tire changes.

For those of you who have just tuned in, we are discussing the FJR dogbones not the FJ.

Okay.  So theoretically, 4mm would work, tho not as well.  And that is -4mm to the total stock dogbone length, correct?

Paddy, sorry to hijack this thread.
