Started off at about 27 mpg went down to about 25 mpg and lately with my tinkering I just saw 32 mpg today I bought 5 gallons at 31 mpg.I do a lot of high speed highway miles I dont like waiting at stop lights so most of my miles are 4000 rpm +.I would like to see 35 mpg or more.I have been thinking about a 18/38 set up to get better mileage as well.

thats still rich...... last summer Eric and i went out west and i was consistantly getting 35-40mpg (best of 42) and we were running  65-90 mph.... you can still run fast without using a lot of throttle..... it's called short shifting..... not fun but it will definitely extend your fuel range....     the 18/38 gearset helps but it doesnt drop the rpms enough that i dont still wish for a 6th gear.

Now when i'm riding alone i can get Brutus down into the low to mid twenty's pretty easily but that is hammering the throttle and spinning the tach into the kookaloo zone regularly (which is great fun but doesnt help MPG one bit) so i know where you are coming from....look at it this way.. your FJ still gets way better mileage than a new R1 and just about every car on the road today ! :good2:

KOokaloo!

I went  into the kookaloo zone on a 86 GSXR 1100 with a sweet sounding pipe and an extended swingarm last night.Saw him disapear in my mirrors.Lost another pair of sunglasses today when I raised up from behind my windscreen and caught the wind.I do like to hear the pipe sing and feel the pull of the motor in 4th and 5th gear.I cant wait till my trans is fixed and I can enjoy 2nd and 3rd gear.2nd is ok up to about 5000 rpm 3rd forget about it i dont even use it,short shift to 4th gear then crack the throttle.
