mounting ears on the front fender.

Hi all.

Both mounting tabs on the front part of the front fender have broken off, so it's flopping around.  I've tried a glue called Plastic-Weld, it lasted my Jasper trip and a little more before it fell apart.  Is the front fender ABS plastic, and if so would plumbing ABS cement do the deed.

Find a shop that has a plastic welder.  I want to buy one but they are a little to pricey.  Ask around some guys are really talented at it and it turns out real nice

Hard success with epoxy resin (fiber glass) chop up some mat and mix in with a glass filler till like putty. Then form  or glue the broken bits...

I just went through the same thing with mine. Both of the ears broke off; I temporarily re-attached them with super-glue, then I used a fiberglass repair kit to make the permanent repair. While doing this, I also epoxied the holes completely closed and used a die grinder to "re-drill" the holes so that the epoxy would form a bond throughout. A little shaping with a sander and a shot of semi-gloss black paint and the repair is hardly noticeable, with the exception of the fact that the mounting ears are thicker than stock. Be careful not to over tighten the screws as this is what causes the the initial failure, IMO.

However, this only works if you still have the broken off tabs. I was fortunate there.

If you've done the brake upgrade and discarded the bracket that attached to the forks to help hold the stock lines in place, you'll need to put something in place of the bracket so you don't run the bolts for the fender down too far and stress the tabs.  I used a nylon washer which has worked well.

Don't those brackets go on the outside of the tabs?  I don't quite see how they prevent the things from breaking.... pics may help. It's been so long since I had stock lines and calipers, I don't remember.
