Well, finally sorted what I need for the FJ plus some extra goodies. Ordered from Randy (thankyou for all your advice and help) after my hopelessness on PayPal. Honed my bores, cut my valve seats ready for the new ex valves and cut and lapped in the inlet valves. Next to pull out the suspension for new springs, valves and rear shock. Hopefully it'll be on the road by December!! :yahoo:

Hi
for things that go up and down a zillion times in a very harsh hot enviourment would it not be a good idea to replace valve springs?

Hi Chiz,
Yep, normally if I was rebuilding a smaller or higher revving motor, I would. I have measured the current springs and they are still at factory spec, as is the piston to bore clearance and small end piston pin and the inlet valves are like new. I think it's seen some love in it's past. In my 26 yrs as a bike tech, I have never seen a broken spring on a big air cooled motor.
Cheers, Tom.

Hello Tom, true, normally the FJ valve springs don't break (excepting racing) but they sure do get weak allowing valve float.

I'm with Chiz  :good:
