My other two fj,s had/have the standard kmh speedo,s ,, optinal switches would be nice, I tapped into the pass light switch on effie , so that's now the  air horn switch ,,,,,,

Just had a look at the honda switches , great set up, also available for the  brake side too

"avationfred"  let me know about those GL 1800 masters. They also have there banjo fitting on the back side same as the FJ (no new lines required).
Its an option to think about.

A little off track but "finallygotone" states that it was built for Japan. Curious is the speedo primarily marked in KPH ? Also were there smaller intake manifolds for the Japanese models ? Inquiring minds.
George

Im not sure how much time it actually spent riding the roads there.... I was just told it was built for Japan first... and the guy who first bought it in Canada... had it imported...no other real quirks... except the speedo is Kms ONLY and VIN is not like a Canadian bike

Yes George, Japanese domestic models had KPH speedo which went to 180kph only, and the intake manifold diameter is only 28mm.

Harvy

That will something for "finallygotone" to investigate or at least be aware of if it was built for the Japanese market. Thanks Harvy.  :drinks:
George

Ya... I didn't know that.. nor have I investigated anything like that yet. I wonder how that would change things? performance? ..... Heck im trying to get pegs installed first..lol

We also have the seperate switch for the headlight , and my ambulance was factory fitted with the mph/kmh speedo,

I thought that I seen an FJ speedo with just kmh markings on it. I think it was on a Japanese e bay site? A seperate switch for the headlight would be nice. Looking for another switch :).
Been thinking about buying a Honda GL 1800 clutch master cylinder because they have a nice optional switch block that mounts on top of it. Use the switch's for driving lights, heated grips, etc..

George

I removed the little block off plate and mounted a little rocker switch above my Start switch:

It's not big enough to switch high power stuff alone, but I use a relay to switch my running lights.

Don't worry about the small stuff. Your manifolds might be the larger ones anyhow. Lots of years, owners and mods.... I would just focus on basic safety issues and getting the bike set up the way you want it. They make winter for digging into thing  :rofl2:.

I seen your switch mod , and thought  wow what a cool place for a switch  :wacko2:,,, but some nice bloke from japan had kindly fitted one already for the headlight switch
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods

Back to the highway pegs. I've taken some quick pictures to show what I'm going to do.  Only have the one plate. Because I gave one and a peg to a friend to draw up a set of plans to have some made out of aluminum later.

So the pictures don't show the original plate that will be under the plate for peg mount.
one picture shows what I'm going to trim off the plate blacked out. Hard to see because of rust. But should get the general idea.
the pictures are in miscellaneous fj pictures if someone could add them here it would be great

Petty good thinking there  :good2:. That could also be a mounting bracket for running lights ? One thing you have to be aware of is that IF you break rule #1 you will force some energy into the side of the frame.

Thanks Monkey. I know the basics but everytime I try it just gives me jiberish that is the link on the post.
I really think it's my phone.

Anyway you can just use the engine plate without modification. If you want. Put a couple of washers between the peg and the bracket. The shoulder on the bolt is a little too long for the plate thickness.

That's part of the reason I want to make some out of aluminum. And it would look better, and be lighter.

Since you are already removing material, you can remove enough so they will break-away if you fall over.

I just mentioned because I have heard of other bikes where they have mounted sliders and when they had the misfortune to use  them they bent the frame or cracked the engine casting.
That point on the FJ looks pretty strong. There is a bolt/rod connecting it to the other side I think, but it's also a mount point with cast ears off the block.
As a design point you are correct that you could score a bend or break point on the back side of the plate.
Don't you love it when you come up with a good idea and someone starts picking it apart  :rofl2: :rofl2: :drinks:  Bunch of FJ vultures anyhow
