OK, this is going to sound silly, but I can't get the bike seat to fit at the front.  I assume the plastic tab on the seat is supposed to fit under the bracket just forward of the battery - there doesn't seem to be enough room on mine without undertaking a little surgery!

I've put a couple of pics on of the battery area, could someone please let me know if it appears to be assembled correctly.  I've never had the seat fitted up, so have no reference as to how is should look underneath.

Goes under the tab next to the fuel overflow

Looks like the wrong battery to me...

It is too tall to allow the seat tab to fit.

Yes battery should be a YB14L-A2 or a 12N14-3A. Is the battery sitting all the way down in the battery box?

At least on my bike. The + post is on the rear brake pedal side and + and - posts are facing the rear of the bike.

yes Fred, I didn't specify that very well, thank you for doing that...my Pos + is on the rear brake pedal side like yours and that is what I was refering to in my intial comment...but after you mention the front/rear facing of the battery posts, I believe my posts are opposite of yours and face the front of the bike?

Fred, you enlightening me to the front/rear difference got me curious, so I looked...and there is a difference in the years of manf...(I'm sure this is probably old news!!!)

my 86' has the Pos+ battery post on rear brake pedal side & the battery posts are facing towards front of bike

my 92' has the Pos+ battery post on gear shift side & the battery posts are facing towards rear of bike

Thanks guys, the battery I have fitted is a YB14-A2.

Looking at the bike this morning, I think the easiest solution will be to slot the mounting box holes a little to allow it to sit a little lower in the frame.

On a 2nd look, thinking the files was a little harsh, I've just noticed that the battery box appears to be height adjustable!    DOH!

Just waiting for some penetrating oil to work its magic on a seriously corroded fastener and should be in business later today :)
