Obviously the main fairing is model specific but what about the front fender, side covers and tail cover - what I mean is apart from the colour differences, are they otherwise physically the same and so will interchange from one series to another?  eg" Would the side cover from an 86 fit on an 89, 91 or for that matter - an 84?

The front wheel covers are all the same if that helps.....
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

'86 Ambulance - Bent frame, cracked case, due for an overhaul
'89 Stormy Blue - Suits my Dark Side

It does, thanks - I was going over the different parts fiche and suspected as much but couldn't be sure.

Yamaha part numbers XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX the first three are the model, next five are the part, then if it is superseded-00-00 new number -10-00, and color codes are the last two. Hardware part numbers are XXXXX-XXXXX-XX most of the time if It is a bolt or screw the middle set will give the size like XXXXX-06040-XX should be 6mmX40mm. Hope this helps.

Ya, I'm well familiar with the numbering system, been restoring an RD350LC for years now - almost done with that.  Also, with painted parts the final suffix will indicate colour.  But what the numbers don't tell you is if the part is otherwise the same, physically I mean.  A good example of this is an RZ350 primary cover is a 29L part while a Banshee is (I think) a 2GU but when you look at the casting numbers - its the same inside, only difference is one is gloss black and the other satin black.  This is the kind of thing I want to know about FJ plastic, while the numbers may differ, I suspect the actual part will interchange.

On the 1200's. The main fairings and all the instrument panels, for the 86' and 87's interchange. The 89' and 90 models interchange and the 91'-93' interchange. The chin fairing, front fender, side panels, tail cover, and the thin strips under the tail panel are interchangable for all years of 1200's. The front fender, side panels and thin strips under the tail cover are also interchangable with the 1100's.

Perfect, just what i thought it would be and now I need not worry about the 94-96 side cover i just bought without knowing for sure. :good2:Armed with that, I'm sure I can find new plastic, it just wont be the same colour of of the bag.
thanks

I was looking through the fiche (various years) last night and today it occured to me that the 1100 had different hand holds on the tail - so is it just the hand holds that are different but the plastic cover still interchanges with all the 1200's or is that but different?

And what about scoops, excluding the 1100, do 1200 fairing scoops interchange or are those different?  Wondering if you can put an 86 scoop on an 89?

The grab rails on early 11/1200 bolt on different,  and fit against the tail instead of through it if that makes sence, ,the bellypan will only fit if you make new mounting brackets on the frame, as I fitted an 89 one on my 84
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it
