If you use 20-40 you could have starter motor problems in cooler weather.
I believe the starter clutch won't engage.
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

I ran Mobil1 20/50 red cap for several years with no problems (down to 40F).

Thanks for all the great input. the yamaha parts guy scared me into using 20w 50 yamalube and i think the ol' fj likes it she doesnt smoke quite as much. BTW the smoke wasn't burning oil more like oil vapor, it didnt smell burnt.i also made the manometer (as per mr. white's thread) and synched the carbs and i must say.......i feel confident that it worked GREAT!!!! so easy and cool to see the vaccuum readings changed and dialed in evenly, it also really helped quiet this puppy down at idle. the noises dont scare me anymore. haha. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH THIS FORUM IS A WEALTH OF INFORMATION AND YOU ALL ARE SO GREAT AND HELPFUL. THANKS.

I don't have any pics of the manometer, if you look under fj files you'll find marsh's post on how to make it and what you need (which is very little). i made mine exclusively from the info found there. he even has pics.
