I used to live in Augusta, GA.  At the time I was a consultant.  Did a small job for Home Depot Corporate over in Atlanta.  Had to be there (150 miles away) @ 7:00am each day.  Interstate 20 is lonely @ 5:00am and  well, the FJ seemed willing so... one thing lead to another... and there we were @ WOT.  On at least 4 occasions, the speedo read 155 mph.   My best time, was 1H 40M respectable given that HD was on the opposite side of Atlanta and there were a few surface streets to navigate.

[LEO, if you're reading this, I happen to know the speedometer, on my bike was seriously miss-calibrated, I was only actually doing maybe 57 mph...  Also, my watch runs REALLY fast]

Couple of things I learned about WOT on an FJ:

1. If you overfill you oil on the FJ -even by 1/2 a quart, it will vent from the top of the crank at WOT, but not otherwise.

2. You can loose your chin fairing without wrecking the bike catastrophically at crazy speeds, or even realizing it -come to find out.  I know, I'm a lucky SOB....

3. Above maybe 130 on the speedo, the air tends to stabilize a bit.

These days, such foolishness is out of the question.

We are all alive, IN SPITE of our youth, not so much because of it.

Cheers,

Dan

An indicated 155 was the highest I've run it up to.  It was a very steady ride with the two big gyros spinning that fast.  It was alarming how fast I ran out of road though; I probably only had it there for 2 miles, that's not very long at that speed!

I haven't visited that part of the speedometer in a while either.

FJ Rides - I need some more!

Well I will admit that there were at least three of us :-X riders, no names, at the Summer Rally in PA that were on a fine and suitable road and ran at sustained triple digits longer than I ever have before  :oI was third and  :-X  The third rider was losing sight of the first two and all behind.  For a 21 year old, 118K mile dinosaur, the ole FJ was pretty damn stable and comfortable.  The rider a little less so....

Probably not real smart, but the road was sweet and seemed to go on forever with no traffic.

Hmmmm, I MAY recall this this. Unless in a court of law.  ::)
