Put on the Renntec rack...

Yesterday my Renntec Luggage rack from Randy at RPM came.  Renntec's instructions were pretty sparse and used British phrases but this dumb Wyoming hick figured it out.
It said to remove the turn signal indicators so I cut the wires up under the seat and respliced them. In the process I saw how there are these factory plugs to unplug the wires so I didn't have to cut them... darn it!!!! Wish I had known that before I went snip snip.
Also had to muscle the rack to match up with the front brackets.
But now when I'm carrying stuff I won't mar the paint on the back fender...

Been there and done that, (doing things that didn't need doing). Live and learn, huh? It's an easy enough fix though.  When taking off my fairing I noticed Yamaha has a lot of those bullet style connectors for turn signals and other such things requiring two wires.

One of the things I plan on doing before trying to spark her up for the first time, is burnish all the contacts on all the connectors.  No doubt there is 19 years of corrosion on them, and intermittent contact can cause fires and failure of the part requiring the electricity.  Largely that's all our in flight tech did to "fix" things, simply re-seat boards and connectors, and, "viola," usually it fixed the problem.

I bet it's a great rack if as much went into it's design as in their engine guards, probably some of the best I've seen.

Thanks!  That looks great!  I've scarred the crap out of that little whoop-de-do, ski jump, flare, or what ever you might want to call it, in the back there.  I lost my Kryptonite lock storage bracket, so I stored it hooked through the metal loop on the back on my '85 FJ1100, and as it bounced around due to road conditions, it wore off the paint and dug divots in the plastic.    So now I'll have to do some plastic welding to restore the original contour, and then try and temporarily match paint until I can do an entire bike paint restoration.  I'm leaving that for a future project.
