Title: 2014 West Coast Rally Locale
Post by: Klavdy on May 18, 2013, 02:01:45 AM
Sounds like most people had a good time last year at Porterville, staying at a Hotel instead of the KOA.
There's another place not too far that looks like it'd tick a lot of boxes for a Rally Destination.
CLICKITY CLICK this link. (http://shaverlakevillagehotel.com/index.html)
I'll be in that area soon, well, after the 2013 Rally at any rate, and I might stay there to suss it out.

It's east of Fresno, on HWY 168

Their list of "Summertime Activities" doesn't include Motorcycling?
Perhaps someone should clue them in?
Judging by the turnout at the WCRs, you would pretty much have to reserve the whole place...............

Suss Away!  :drinks:

Well.. if he books the "Honeymoose Cabin" and wants to share with someone I would decline...

QuoteThis bungalow is designed for the new bride and groom or
for that romantic occasion. The "Honeymoose" cabin provides special touches for that romantic getaway. One King Bed and Couch, Jet Tub built for Two, Private Deck, Fireplace, Microwave, Toaster, Sink, Coffeemaker, Small Refrigerator (not stocked with kitchen supplies).

Klavdy,

How goes the sussing?  I can vouch for the epic-ness of that area.  For anyone who hasn't ridden through Yosemite Valley, it's only 93 miles from there!

I'm in Sonora, it's really nice area.
There's been some magnificent roads ridden to get here.
The section of Hwy 49 known as "The Little Dragon" is possibly the finest motorcycle road in the State right now.
It's just been repaved with the most incredibly smooth, clean hotmix.
I rode it three times back and forth yesterday, and will again today just because it's so good.
I'm off to Red Bluff today as well, intending on riding the Hwy 36 ,Hayfork pass etc.

I was in Sonora on Sunday...some excellent roads out that way!  Keep the reports coming in, I'm taking notes!

I'm off for a run up Mulholland (the Snake) today then going to do a PM on the bike.

Report from Quincy:
The Quincy -Oroville road known as Bucks Lake Road or Hwy 162 is now possibly the best riding road for sheer smooth flow.
Far better than Skaggs Springs, big call but true.
The rhythm of this road is incredible, the surface is near perfect with really good sight lines.
Turn after turn after smooth flowing curve, third and fourth gear just rolling on and off, this is one of the best roads I've ever been on.
There was literally no traffic on this beautiful, scenic motorcycle nirvana, the cars and trucks go on Hwy 70 as it's easier for them.
Great, eh!
Leaves this incredible road for us.
You owe it to yourself to ride it, it's that good.
Pics later.

Klavdy,

That region is a great for rides. In fact, I was talking with Baldy about a camp ground I've stayed at a few times.  It's called Feather River Resort in Graeeagle, CA. It's equipped with cabins, a pool, a 9 hole golf course, and plenty of restaurants. And of course, we could grill up a nice meal as well....won't ask Klavdy to front the bill this time. Just my 2 cents for good time possibilities. Check it out on the web.

Sounds like you will be riding with the Nor Cal renegades..me, Mark, Andy and Frank. If Randy and Mike Ramos are available...even better. You can stay with me as home base, and we explore all options. Good time of year to ride... could be a new tradition...there are good times in Nor Cal. Understand you've been running around these parts post rally. Should have let us know, would have been good fun. Keep us posted on your travel schedule, all is welcome for the Nor Cal Renegades.
By the way, we may be exploring my old stomping grounds where I was raised... Franks region in the Bay Area. Hwy 9 to Santa Cruz. How say you bros, lets plan it.
Talk later. Safe travels all.

Shall we start a list of who's interested in attending...

San Jose Frank (and maybe Diane),

Crashing at Andy's was great, but maybe we need to find a bigger place this year?

Too many choices, so many roads.  Keep up the dialogue, and let's nail something down.  Frank, I'm up for my old stomping grounds, and your backyard...Hwy 9 and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Hell, let's plan two rides.

I am planning to attend, however, that is about the time when I will be out of a job. I might have more free time to make the ride to and from the rally more of an adventure. I will bring Cap'tRon along so he can document the entire trip and show me where all the goods wines are found along the way.

I like Klavdy's idea of Shaver Lake but I'm not sure if there will be enough room with 8 cabins and 4 hotel rooms.

I'm in regardless of location.

I'd like to toss out another idea for general location...  how about we go just a bit south like Solvang and ride some of the beautiful central coast and inland roads in that area?  Great locale that splits travel between our SoCal and NorCal folks more evenly.  If that sounds interesting, I'll look into places to stay.

Solvang is like leaving California and waking up in a little Dutch town, complete with old Holland windmills.  :good2:

Yep, it's a cool place.  Or how about San Luis Obispo area (Tim...?).  Avila KOA is good, but there's a place called Avila Hot Springs that has cabins through tent camping and might be a good location.

No argument here!  There are some great roads and wineries in that area!!!  Los Olivos has one of my favorite Zinfandels (Arthur Earl) and is well known for Sirah in the southern part of the valley.

Re-Bump...  we need to get this rolling and make some reservations.  Another option would be the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay KOA in Watsonville.  Good location for riding coastal range to the north or south, or for heading inland...  dial the rides to suit the temperature at the time.  That's my one concern with East Central Valley.  I wasn't at Porterville, but it was a scorcher.  CA coast is guaranteed to be in the Goldilocks zone (maybe a bit of fog) in early June.

We should make a final decision on a location sometime this month before places start to get all booked up. It also allows people put in for vacation from work.

Any of the above locations are fine with me, we just need to settle on one.

So many great roads, so little time. As long as the WCR takes place somewhere on the west coast, and people turn up - then it's a rally.
How about that ranch in the middle of nowhere with the great food?
Perhaps we should poll. Were's that add poll button thingy?
