Title: Oil Filter Adapter
Post by: racerrad8 on September 19, 2009, 02:06:17 PM
Well, I am down to my last few oil filter adapters that I had made. My question to the group is, how many out there, who haven't done the upgrade are going to be doing it in the future.

The machine shop that made them last time has told me the order level I made last time is not enough for them to do again; They want me to order 100 minimum. I am currently checking with several other machine shops as well.

So, I guess I need to know if there is enough interest for me to lay out that investment and order 100, or if I should keep working try to get another shop to make a smaller quantity for around the same price.

Please let me know, Randy

I would love one also.  Let me know how to go about ordering.  I'm due for an oil change before the end of the season and would like to install it at the same time.

How come you don't run eBay auctions for the adaptor?  There are thousands of FJ's out there that aren't on the forums.

I might have to do that if I have to buy 100 to keep the price down.

Between my day job, my racing and racecar repair work as well as my honey do's, it has been a time issue.

I started this to be a help to the FJ group back in from Yahoo days. I never wanted to take on more work than this group, but I have given that some thought.

Adam,
I tried to join that group last week, but have yet to be accepted. Someone else told me the same thing, and I tried to get registered.

Thanks, Randy

It's pretty easy to just set it up so your auctions always end on the same day, say, Saturday afternoon, then state that the parts will ship out next business day, so you've got about 2 days to get the things to the post office in the event that you didn't have time to package them before the 7-day auction ends.

I have heard from 23 people to this point. Thank you for the initial count. I am currently out of the adapter and have contacted most of the machine shops in a 25 mile radius. I am waiting on pricing from most of them at this point.

Many people who have contacted me have asked about the price. At this point I don't know if I will be able to keep the old price or if I will have to bump it up. That is all dependant on what it will cost to have them made.

The other question that everyone asks; is how much is shipping. I only charge what either USPS or FedEx charges me; I do not profit from shipping. I can not get shipping estimates from USPS and the "estimate" I get from FedEx is exactly that, an estimate.

I have been using a system with this group for the last several years and it has worked well in regards to getting the part shipped to you with a deposit.

I will hopefully be getting the pricing and adapter made in the next few weeks.

You can see some more of the items I have listed here: http://fjowners.com/index.php?topic=69.0 (http://fjowners.com/index.php?topic=69.0)

Just a quick thought on shipping, would the adapter fit into the USPS priority flat rate boxes?  Might make it easier than getting a rate from FedEx every time you have to ship.

Add my name too.  Time is of no importance to me as my Dr. has FORBIDDEN me from riding at least until spring.  All biked up and can't ride.

Mick,
The adapter will fit in the small USPS box and that is not the issue. When other parts are ordered that require a larger box, FedEx is a cheaper way to go. Most of the adapters have gone out of here with other parts that require a bigger box. I just wanted to put out that info out there.

Thanks, Randy - RPM

Good News,
I found a machine shop that was willing to make the adapters on a smaller production run and I will be able to hold the current price of $45.95. They are going to be done by the end of the week. I will be ready to start sending them out next week. I have received requests both via the website & my email.

I need everyone who wanted one to please send me an email to rpm@swaybar.com. If you would please inclused your name and shipping information. If you are just ordering the oil filter adapter it will fit in the small USPS priority box and shipping will be $4.95 within the Continental U.S. If you are in need of other parts, and I can fit them in that box the freight will be the same. If you need a bigger box I will send the parts FedEx.

You can see some of the other items I have here; http://fjowners.com/index.php?topic=69.0 (http://fjowners.com/index.php?topic=69.0)

Thank You,

I have the oil filter adapters in hand and the price will remain the same for this batch.  :yahoo:

If you want one, send me an email to rpm@swaybar.com.

The adapter will fit into the USPS small priority box so shipping on that box is set at $4.95 in the lower U.S. I can also fit another small items such as a slave rebuild kit, or some other small item(s) into the box. If you need UNI's or something bigger that will not fit into the box I will be sending the parts FedEx.

Mickey & Dan yours will be going out tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Title: The Perfect Christmas Gift an Oil Filter Adapter
Post by: racerrad8 on December 14, 2009, 03:39:49 PM
Don't forget, Christmas is just around the corner. I have just sent out a few adapters that are for Christmas gifts.

Give that hint to your wife, husband, girl or boy friend. I can get one sent off priority mail so it can make it under the tree in time for the big day.

It is a spin on oil filter adapter for the fj engine.

you can get rid of the cartridge style filter and cover and use a automotive style honda filter instead.

less mess and easy to replace.
