Hey all,
has anyone come across a shorter turn signal or do you have a way to shorten the existing signals. I can make a custom mount to move the signal backward to fit saddle bags ... but i do not know how to shorten the moose antler signals. any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Steve
I completely removed the stalk and used a 1/4" compression fitting in its place.... don't recall exactly what I did, but someone on the Yahoo group posted it all originally. Maybe he's around here..... it's been a few years. I do remember having to drill the center ridge out of the fitting.
thks for the tip ... will definitely look into it ....
:good:

Thought about it some and as I recall, the compression fitting replaces the stalk. There's a nut inside the light housing, remove the socket and you can get to it. Use the comp nut to hold the fitting in the housing and reassemble...... it's pretty obvious how it all goes back together. You have to drill the ridge out of the fitting so the wires will fit thru.
Might have been me. You can remove the rubber boots and shorten the stalk using basic brass plumbing fittings. Dunno if it's enough clearance for bags, but it's a lot neater. I don't recall the exact details, but it's fairly obvious if you eyeball it. Just a threaded double-end brass coupler from Ace Hardware. I don't recall having to drill out the coupler...I think I fed the wires through and re-crimped the connectors.
The coupler's got threads on both ends and a hex in the middle. Takes about an inch-and-a-half off each side. You'll need a nut on the bracket side; you can actually thread the signal right onto the adapter. Five years...no problems.

Yep, it was you..... I seem to remember drilling it out, but I didn't cut the wire ends off...
Glad it worked for you, Steve.
Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day!
Cheers, Rich

Do you have any pictures of what it looks like now? I would really like to see it.
Thanks, here is my email address.

Steve,
How does this look?

I have Yamaha brackets that relocate the signals backwards. They're only small metal brackets about 0.125 "/3mm thick. About 1" wide x 2.5 ", bent 90 degrees in the center. I can post a picture, but they're REALLY simple.
BTW, nice job on the short stalks! I may try that too!
