Post by: mar1cius on June 15, 2011, 08:04:07 AM
Hello,
i have FJ1100 1984 whit the hot starting broblem problem.
After journey 30km, engine becomes very hot ant starter turns very slow. When bike runs on idle, engine becomes more warmer, when its was before, and starter does non work at all. After 10-15 minutes when engine bekomes cold, stater starts too woork.
Starter - cleant ant rebuild
Batery  - new (14AH)
New pistons rings
New cam chain
New generator chain
New sparks
Thanks, Martynas

Check your main fuse wires and generator wires, if ok, change starter (model y13)(more torque) and thats it.

Make sure your battery is grounded well, and the terminal connections are clean.

Also, try opening the throttle a bit while cranking.  Apparently this helps.

The starter on my 86 would crank slowly when it was hot. Tried to insulate it, didnt help. I checked the brushes and they looked fine. Replaced them anyway, problem solved.

Rebuild starter.  If early style, consider replacing to later style.

Is the difference 2 brushes early or 4 brushes late?

Same issue with my 3cv, I had the starter apart and cleaned it out before it was back on the road.
I wondering how can I tell the difference between the two without taking them apart? Marking and such....

If it has this Philips screw, it is the 2 brush starter... All others are the 4 brush... Thanks to Randy at RPM for providing this information...
