Is this some politically correct way to police people?
There's no way to give it that I can see yet. So we're all the same.
It's a neat system though.
ahh I see I just gave ya some Karma Andy, can I take it back?

Karma only counts if we can take it to the next existence and upgrade. The score card is really in secrete to motivate us to error on the plus side. This is a different twist with the cards face up on the table. Kind of self/other moderation. If done with honesty and integrity it should work really well. When abused by others it could go really out of hand. I would like to see how this works. As humans we tend to drive with immense purpose to simultaneously simplify and complicate our lives.
Marsh, just curious, can one vote on anyone's karma up and down as many times as we wish? Or are there limits on Karma votes per person/day? If I were a right prick I might just hammer a member like IrishLuck for being himself. I offered info and watched others offer even more, to the point of his responses declining to a less than zero redeeming value. What was your intent of how we use this new feature? Can this lead to a collective ban if one's Karma hits a low trigger point? maybe there is a virtual potato cannon we can put major offender's avatar in and pull the trigger? Banned for X days. Just curious.
I must have bad Karma. I cant get the FJ owners home page after I log on. Get an error message. I have monitoring recent post to try to see whats going on. Marsh you out there? Any Ideas?
I will be good this life,
Mike
Mike, sorry for the delay. I am out of town attending a funeral. I just fixed you up! You should be good to go now!
Doing good works!!!! I gave an applaud to Mark (for always being ready to ride) and wham I got my home page back!! Marsh is taking credit but a higher spirit was at work.
Thanks to Karma (Marsh)

Must be a California thing. Over here we just stone you to death if you're beyond hope. Real stones, no prescription stoning. Either that or leave you in the ditch trying to get a cell phone signal.

Some of those 'pricks' are pretty decent guys, are members here, and have helped us to no end.
While many FJs have met an early and undeserved demise as Legends donors, no doubt, IMO it is now swinging the other way... Because of the Legends series, there are sources for engines, etc. that would have dried up a long time ago otherwise, helping keep the remaining FJs running strong.

It'll be just a moment. I HAVE SMITING TO DO! MWAHAHAHAHAHA....
This may not be the best ever upgrade to the site :D  :rofl2:
And them dirty dorf car bastids include guys like Randy, so they can't be all bad.
Thanks for the laugh Andy! Now I can return to pulling the choke knob.
If you're choking your knob, we don't wanna know about it. The web is fulla stuff for that...
Alright , what is the dealio with the karma. ?
do ya just click it ? or do you have to post too?
"I stepped over your karma and landed in the dogma"
I'm currently out of town - so I'll post more information on this topic next week when I return. The way the Karma is currently setup is that you have to have 80 posts or higher to be able to vote on another members Karma. You cannot see the vote links in the "Most Recent Posts" view - you have to actually click into the topic to be able to vote. (I'll fix this later)
You can vote one time for a SPECIFIC member only every 3 hours. That will keep you from clicking a specific person up or down repeatedly. I think this is a good balance - but it is adjustable.
The vote is not tied to a specific post or message - it is just a general vote for that person when you choose to cast a vote.
My name is Earl. Some funny shit on that show and Catalina is yummy.

Who are you trying to kid Randy, I have met some of them guys. Pricks is a far better description.
(Not including RPM of course)
And who is the wanker that gave me negative Karma? I didn't even post anything today. Come home from work and I have smite?
I was going to be upset but then I noticed marsh got some too. Who would give Marsh negative karma?
BTW: this Karma thing is currently an experiment. It may not stick around. There are positives and negatives to it. I'm still on the fence as to which outweighs which. It is open to discussion. I've had PM's requesting something like this. The Karma system has been a feature with this forum software all along - I just decided to turn it on and see how it goes while I'm out of town. Again - please discuss and post your opinions!

Notice I said "some", not 'all'...
You probably got bad karma from whomever did it to me, too. Who cares, really?
My opinions are not always popular, but they are my own.
The person who did it to Marsh probably picked some REAL bad karma, not the virtual kind.

I just put up a Poll about whether or not we should have this Karma thing. Please vote! Note: you can change your vote on this poll at any time if you change your mind on this topic.
i don't like it......cuz I CAN'T VOTE YET!!!! really doesn't matter to me, it could be cool if unabused. cheers.
I'll also throw out another option: I can set it up to just be a total Karma count - no negative field.
Example - it would just say Karma: 29. If someone Smited you, then the total would go to 28.
I will add that option to the Poll.
You know that Klavady is going to get hammered. All just for fun. Geez, I just got hammered for saying that, him being a website designer and all.....

I got smitted! I don't like the Karma thing anymore.
Seriously I am in diffrent to this thing (wife says I'm passive aggressive). If I was forced to vote, I have to go no karma rating. There are a handfull of contributors on this forum that are invaluable contributors. I apprecite them immensely. Once in while someone says something that rubs and that just provides entertainment for those of us in the gallery (popcorn) as they get straightened out by the articulate ones.
I was feeling good as I just got back from a ride to Crystal Lake, but after getting smited, I wish I had a dog to kick . Where's the old lady?

Even by his own admission he hasn't posted in "yonks" which must equal 8+ months, but the first thing out his brain to tell everyone is that he had surgery, has found out how to make booze and f*** off to at least two of the regular members here that have the knowledge/experience, love and ride an FJ as well as race the car.
Oh well, I will keep offering my knowledge & experience I have gained by first coming into contact with the FJ found in a
"racecar" and pass it and the plethora of parts still available because of the car application.
Hopefully he can control his "Cooper's homebrew ramblings" in the future...(popcorn)

It's your world, boss. And I love it. :yahoo:
This whole karma thing is kinda facebooky. so I am undecided at present.
I did like the smite option you had before , so maybe it could be" bitch'in" for like and" smite " for dislike.
Marsh, I think this is a "Wait it out and see how it plays" kind of thing. I can see how some will take the "Smite" or "-1" much closer to the heart than others. We are all a mixed bunched of personality types and we are great as a group for the exact same reason . I am a detail geek and engineer kind of weird nut and fully accept it. Karma as given on this site will likely fall to the ones that need to express there opinion on others (good or Bad). Maybe you can offer members the option to turn it "off" or "on". Play is optional as well as results. The players get to have their fun and the "OPT outs" cannot be offended. Is that an option? Best of both worlds eh?
I kind of like the "Smite or Plight" power cuz I don't really care if some Jackwagon with a mouse does not like me. Join me Klavdy, the bullets are gonna fly.....

K man, something has gone really wrong and my Karma is going Positive. I am feeling unworthy and at best a really late bloomer. Maybe Marsh will allow members to pool their Karma in to teams and help us collect into sub-groups and achieve inter-group goals of either a high or low score. Every group needs a Black and White, Ying and Yang..... Feeling kind of edgy now, maybe I need a good solution to my 92 GSXR rear wheel swap and a nap? Hugs and Kisses all....

Holy Crap!!! I could be selling my Karma credits....? Carsick, you are getting some kickback for this.......but only in Karma credits....Let's talk and name a price......K Man won't give me squat for my excess Karma.

Marsh, looks like you have some credits to sell, what is the going price man? Wait an FN%$ minute!!!! Marsh created this Karma credit scheme, this smells like some Ponzy scheme where March invents a kind of currency and implies some kind of value. He can just boost his worth with a keystroke and make himself a financial Karma God. This is way off kilter and we need to revolt (Lybia, Egypt.....The East side)...See any resemblance???
So, what can a dictator sell his credits for? :bomb:
Karma credits ....they are liable to be worth more than any paper currancy in the near future.... Barter good karma credits to farmers for corn..... to pig farmers for bacon..... i can see the movement gaining momentum.
karma credits are free to give......but they must be given in order to be recieved!
KOokaloo!

Like and dislike, sounds too much like facebook, I preferred smite, it has a nice ring to it.
Like/dislike? Fooey. Smite was ideal. Maybe paired with Bless.
Bless versus smite must be the way to go. It makes one really consider the giving of karma, which for all should be a serious business. Don't dilly dally with the Dali Lama.
How about "Hail" for the positive? I really like the idea of being able to "smite" and "hail" people. I like the karma idea a lot. It is a bit Facebooky as some have said, but I think that most of the regulars here have enough sense to see it as playful banter and not take it too seriously. Hail!
Marsh, I bless you for bringing smite back. :good:
Well, so far the vote is 8 in favor of having the Karma thing on this forum - with 11 against and 7 undecided. I'm a little supprised about how few votes there are. Unless the votes swing the other way all of a sudden - I will remove the Karma feature this evening.

Ok, but leave the "Smite" part cuz it feels good knowing I can actually Smite someone that I don't like....Can we get a "Smite" smiley icon? Diablo kind of works but I'm thinking of something more lightningbolty with some explosion and POP?
No, no man, don't delete it until I have the mostest karma. Gotta go out on top! Although I do find it a bit of an enigma how I obtained 11 frequent karma miles by abusing people, being sarcastic, and offering no helpful information whatsoever. Seems like the system is fatally flawed to reinforce bad behavior.
What if we just all be really fucking nice to each other and everybody we know and meet and see if the world gets better? Hard to measure objectively but worth a try!
Allright - I just pulled the Karma feature. All of the past "Karma" votes are still saved in the system should it ever be reinstated.
