Title: Return to work instrument upgrade
Post by: aviationfred on March 17, 2021, 05:15:48 PM
With the return to the ranks of the employed. Casper is getting a much needed instrument cluster upgrade.

Taking advantage of the 15% off Sale at Speed Hut. Just ordered this set. On the Quad gauge, the water temp will be changed to oil temp, 140°- 300°F. At night the dials will be Black.

Fred

For a more detailed posting for the install. Click on the following links to the FILES section.

For anyone wanting to use these gauges as an upgrade. I will cover some information that has been stated in prior posts.

1. The GPS speedometer and any combination of the fuel gauge comes standard with a soft button on the front. When ordering,  add into the Note section to remove the soft button and add a remote cable on the back of the gauge. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

2. Choose the Legacy or the Stealth bezel ring. They have the lowest profile.

3. For the GPS speedometer, add your mileage in the Notes section, Speed Hut can program that for you.

4. For those that would like to use these gauges, but are not comfortable with the wiring and/or the programming. I have built a few sets for fellow FJ owners. PM me for details.

Looks like you can have Red Numbers for daylight and night. I did this Speedo as 180mph to see how it looked. The 2nd photo shows the current face colors available.

I have a question for Randy or Robert. Is the oil pan galley plug on the side a good place for the Oil Pressure sensor to be installed for the new gauge? If so, is this the correct galley plug adaptor to use?

Fred

You need to use one of the main oil galley tap ports for "engine" oil pressure. The oil cooling circuit pump has a smaller displacement pump and lower pressure relief valve.

You need this one: Yamaha Main Oil Galley Adapter (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Engine%3ARPMMGP)

Replace the o-ring while you are there too to ensure no leaks: Main Oil Galley Plug O-Ring (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Engine%3A93210-20573%2F93210-207AO)

I have the same gauges fitted on mine.
The oilways I used where the ones both sides of the crank.
I'll try and post a photo of this.
By the way mine works fine.

Fred, do you have a tyre pressure monitor system?

*sigh* Still no gear indicator...

There's no transmission sensor in a GPS speedometer... so despite the sighing....  highly unlikely that you will ever be satisfied on this.  There's only 5 gears, I count as I go if I am even paying attention.  RPM and "pull" usually enough of an indicator.  5th always (ALWAYS) arrives too soon.  If I had a gear indicator showing "5" to me all the time I would be cursing at it and wishing for 6th....

A TPMS would be cool.
I'm still looking for a wireless system with inner rim mounted sensors that have a replaceable battery.

Looks good Fred. I might have to get some for the turbo bike.   Have to be 200+mph.
Can you get a boost guage for the quad gauge.

The 200mph Speedo is available..... unfortunately the Boost gauge is only offered as a single gauge.

Calm down, big guy, we've already had this discussion.

Progress on the gauge install. The programmed mileage on the new gauge is not exact. I guessed at how many miles I would ride while waiting on the gauges. I don't think 128 miles difference will make anyone upset. The push button cable that I am holding is plugged into the rear of the speedo and mounts as the reset button. Allows toggling the LCD screens. Every splice gets filled with dielectric grease.
I don't think there are actual figures for Oil Pressure. The readings show about 50psi at idle and 80psi at 6000rpm.
The arrows point to the 2 OEM and 2 Speed Hut connectors. 100% plug and play....

Very cool gauges i guess this is an upgrade from the blue speedhut gauges you had as its added temp and oilpressure. As a non electrical guy it will to much to bite over to
install them on my bike, but i can tell that the oilpressure is fine it should be about 50 to 65 psi on the oilcooler circuit and 65 to 85psi on the main galley circuit  :good2:

The Blue gauges are still on my 1995 FJ. The Red gauges are being installed on my 1990 FJ (Casper).

Short video of the new gauges at night.

Yes, the headlight is aimed too high with the recent fork swap.
