hey all i made a mistake when ordering a new rear sprocket for the gsxr rear wheel i accidently ordered a 42 tooth instead of a 40 that i am currently running. am i gonna be silly fitting it to see what its like or should i just return it and wait for a 40 tooth? o im running a 17 front sprocket. has anyone run this setup and what did they think?
cheers
I am sure others have run a 17/42 combo without problems. It is only a 5% difference in ratio. So your RPMs will be 5% higher to go the same speed as 17/40 combo. If you normally cruise at 4000 RPM then with the 42 you will be at 4200 RPM.
Pair that 42 rear with an 18 front.

ah when you say it like that it doesnt sound too bad. i wasnt sure if it would make her want to spend alot of time on the back wheel as i tend to like 2 to the black stuff.

Good idea, that will put the ratio nearly identical to the 17/40 combo and it is a little easier on the chain.
FYI 17-42 was the stock sprocket combo on my '84.

But it had a larger rear tire than the GSXR wheel...

17-42 is stock combo for 84?
17/42 gearing is stock fj84. I changed to 18/40 for lower highway cruising rpm. Dave
In Europe, the stock gearing for 84/85 FJ1100 was 17/41.

Aaaah, I know I read it somewhere so I was puzzled now for a moment. Thanks!
