Damn! That's the weekend of our charity bike ride down the CA coast...  Diane and I ride a tandem bicycle for team Audi in the Best Buddies Challenge.  Great ride from Carmel to Hearst Castle with a big concert at the end.  Highly recommend it to anyone that like this sort of thing.

Sorry to miss you guys.

No website, I will post everything as it gets squared away over the next month. We will be hosting from here at the RPM shop and riding east into the sierra's. The rides will include Priests Grade and the Little Dragon as well as many other fantastic roads that are not as famous.

I am working on discounted hotels rooms, eats and everything needed to have a great time.

I know at the WCR there was a significant interest of the So-Cal brethren of attending, so maybe there can be a group ride up.

So, save the date on your calendar and everyone is welcome to attend.

Okay, trying to work with the local hotels, but in order for me to get a price check I am going to need a head count.

I found place that has plenty of two bed rooms to accommodate people who want to share a room and split the cost. So I need to know if you are splitting a room as well.

But I need to book the rooms so they do not fill up.

I will provide transportation to & from the hotel if you want to leave your bike parked in the shop.

So, if you would lets get a head count started.

Just curious...  If this could move 1 week in or 1 week out:

1.  Could you still do it Randy? and
2.  Who could make those weekends?

I would be able to do either...

It's hard for me to take time off this late in the year, but count me as on the fence.

This is arriving Thursday and departing Sunday, Sept 11-13 correct. Not 11-15th. Thanks for confirming this.

I will defer to Mark O, he is the one that selected the date.

The weekend prior is Labor day weekend so that is a bad weekend for riding due to holiday travelers.

I have not looked at my work schedule yet but will request the time off from work if I have to.

Yes Kurt, the 11-13th, I will have Pat correct the heading to reflect the correct dates.

Alright FJ riders, I would prefer to keep the date already set.If moving it a week forward would attract more attendees, than perhaps we could do that.

We all talk about getting together more than once a year and this is the perfect opportunity to ride..there is gonna be a bonfire at RPM with shuttle service to your motel and secure parking for your FJ at the shop. Maybe even a raffle for RPM goodies .Those who have attended a renegade rally are never disappointed with the great time..

I'd do it if we move out by 1 week (or even 2).  Moving in a week would make it Labor Day weekend and maybe not so good...

I'd love to fit in another RR   :music: :gamer: :music:

I plan on being in the States then, but I've got a definite engagement on the weekend of September 12th in L.A.
After that, a roaming Northern California is my plan, three weeks on the road.
Might go up to Canada and back.

What I meant to say was move a week farther into the month ....

Randy and I have consulted and agreed on the new date of sept 18th-20th 2015.

Hopefully this will work for the ones who had already posted attendance.

So ride in thurs the 17th and the group rides are on the 18th and 19th leaving the 17th and 20th for travel days .

Now we need a new head count for the motel reservations and meal planning.

I look forward to seeing everyone there.

I'm in, got my tickets.
I'll sort the motel room out a bit closer to the date, don't care if I share or have a single.
Hmmm, my brother in law has 2,500 acres near Lake Don Pedro and an office in Jamestown.

Klav, I am getting a head count so I can book rooms for you guys before you get to town. Once I get a solid head count I will let you know the price.

Maybe you'll have to stop by and see the in-law, you'll be close enough

Okay, here is the list so far and I have about 4-5 rooms. I need to get the final count tallied so that I can get the rooms reserved and would like to get this done by Tuesday 7/28/15. I will pay for the rooms and then you guys can reimburse me.

I would also like to start working on food, so I really need to get the head count sorted.

I have sent some emails out to guys who don't frequent the forum anymore and if they say they are coming I will add them to the list.

If you have any questions, post them here or send me an email; randy@rpmracingca.com

Okay, so we went with Holiday Hotel here in Oakdale. My wife went and checked it out, she is happy as it appears to be recently remodeled.

So, I have not gotten all of the room assignments sorted, but they are paid for with cancellation up to 48 hours prior. You guys will have to pay me directly. I have these rooms all for Friday & Saturday night.

If you think you might need a room for Thursday night please let me know and I will get that sorted too.

Here is what I have purchased.

3) Single Queen bed rooms $79.00
7) Two Double Beds           $89.00
2) Two Queen beds            $99.00

All rooms have a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Free continental breakfast is provided.

I will provide shuttle back & forth between the shop and hotel so your bikes can be parked inside at night.

We chose this place only after going and looking at it. And based on the price we could get it for compared to the Holiday Inn Express which had two queen beds for $169.00

Dunno if anyone could beat The Romans friend Charles.
At one rally in Willitts,  he got made to sleep outside on a trailer and we could still hear him, and we were inside those log cabin things.

I want to make this but if I can come it will be a fly-by ---- and will ride up Friday evening for Ride on Saturday -- Leave Sunday.   I have pretty much used up my vacation.

Please put me in as a Maybe for now while I try to work out the details.  Even one day with you folks is like a year ( I think that is a good thing?)

I can bunk with you if you want Monkey --- but as you know I am King Snorer -- but only when I drink.   So maybe you will get lucky.  ( no wise cracks --- agggg --- oopps

I plan on leaving L.A (Orange County) on Tuesday the 15th at around 10.00 am,head north towards Oakdale,  no fixed plans on route or where to stay., just head in the general direction of North.
Probably go up to Bakersfield that first day then head up the 178 to Lake Isabella to take the 155 over to sorta Porterville area, stay the night around there then Wednesday go on the 190 or further north take the 245 through Badger, it's a thrilling ride with beautiful views then lob into Oakdale on the Thursday.
Or maybe I'll ride up with Pat or something,  it's a pretty tops plan, eh?

Hot & Dry...do not make too many concrete plans as Northern California is burning. I saw last night there is several forest fires in the area of Hayfork. Sonora Pass was closed last week as well due to a fire.

So, just because of the uncertainty of the ride routes I am probably not going to get them confirmed until the Monday or Tuesday prior.

Hell, the Altamont hills have been burning the last couple of days.

Fires are a way of life and death here in Australia too, one good thing that comes out of them I guess is the improved sight lines where the roadside vegetation gets burned away and the kangaroos or deer can't hide so easily.
You know we have feral deer in Australia too?
Still bringing my heated jacket,  been caught out before on those high places.

One can be seen quite clearly in the lower right. The other shapes are hard to tell, could be rocks. Near the water height sign has the right shape for a croc head. Possibly another on the left side, hard to tell.

Map help...

I need to enlist someone to make proper ride maps that include the GPS coordinates for those who can download into their GPS. monkey tried to walk me through and I can get it to partially work, but never can seem to get it quite right.

If anyone can assist please let me know. I want to be able to have everything done prior to everyone leaving home so they can download or print off the maps.

The routes are basically completed, I just need to make a couple of tweaks.

Randy, I have a Garmin Nuvi 765 and I use Base Camp. I can help with direct imports for Garmin devices. I am checking if Base Camp has a GPS cord export.  I will let you know shortly.

Rightyo then,
Anyone else riding up on the Thursday?
Looks like my plan has changed slightly, I'm now going to ride up from Tustin, Orange County, on Thursday the 17th , leave at about 10:00 am from Tustin to miss the worst of the traffic, that'd get me to Oakdale around 19:00, that's slabbing it all the way on the 5 then the 99 through Bakersfield, Fresno etc or if I go the more scenic routes, it's see me getting there on Friday the 18th at some time.
Hmmm, mebbe go up the 395 then cut across Sonora Pass?

Kman, Mike and his friend Nate from Roseamond are riding up Thur. Maybe you can meet up along the way. Unless Mike from San Dimas wants to change plans and go up a day early then we could meet up with you as well...

I'm heading out of Palm Desert also Thursday morning. Departure time depends on the route.

Mid morning departure would mean slabing it up I 5 and cutting over to Oakdale with arrival around 1500hrs
A Very Early morning departure would allow a jaunt up 395 (noon at Bishop) and crossing the Sierra's at Sonora Pass with arrival in Oakdale at dusk ~1900hrs.

Normally I avoid I-5 like the plague, but to get to the Oakdale cutoff I need to only travel 1/2 the way up.
Not too bad.

One year on a return trip from a Willits WCR, Paul Lawson and I rode over Moniter Pass and down 395 to Palm Desert in a one long 18 hour day....won't ever do that again.

17) Mike Ramos (Solo) (Fri, Sat)

18) Windancer (Keary) (No room)

I did hear from Mr French and twangin4u, this is on their bucket list and they are going to try to make it

I have everyone's email except for Tim's friend Roger and Mike's friend Nate. If they can send me an email or if you can can forward their email I will add them to the email list I have created to get the info out to those guys too.

Be looking for email(s) from me over the next week which will include all of the details for the weekend. We are still ironing out a few more details but this will be an all inclusive rally. I have the menu for both nights almost sorted out including beverages, I have a taxi service lined up to shuttle between the shop & I think one of my vendors is going to come through with some gadgets to have here your everyone to see, touch and play with.

The Saturday ride route is 98% complete and I will send out the maps once I get them figured out. There is a gathering point at the farthest location, from there we will go have lunch. Then the ride can be altered for those who do not want to ride the full ride. I was able to keep the ride pretty centered on the shop and that gives options for those who don't want to make the full ride. They can just cut it short and head back to the shop or hotel for swimming before dinner Saturday night (if it is as hot as it was last weekend...).

There is a good chance there will be a fire pit as well, but like I just said...if it is as hot as last weekend, then I doubt anyone is going to want to sit near a fire...

So, we are getting down to last call for this rally and with the numbers we have so far I am going to be able to get the final costs all sorted out.

Recon ride #2 completed today, I am done with the route, now the maps just need to get sorted.

Just over 200 miles and more than six (6) hours including the lunch stop. Great roads, great scenery and great food.

Look at the bridge at the top of the previous photo, then the road continues.

We are going to have mid-point rendezvous point for a group photo at the O'Shaughnessy Dam which houses the Hetch Hetchy reservoir. That is the drinking water and electrical power source for all of San Francisco city & county building and things like the cable cars. I can just imagine 20+ FJ lined up where we parked today.

We will be having lunch at the Evergreen Lodge before completing the journey to the dam; http://www.evergreenlodge.com/ (http://www.evergreenlodge.com/)
They have a great outdoor cover seating area for us and were happy to have us dine with them.

The nice thing about the ride route, is that those who do not want to ride that far/long will be able to break off and head back to the shop/hotel and get ready for the Saturday night feast.

I am almost ready to let the pig out of the bag, but I have to confirm just a couple more things early next week.

I am glad we moved it back one weekend as the forecast says the original weekend looks have temps above the century mark. Hopefully the following weekend is as nice as it was today which was in the mid 80's here at the shop and it was 70 up at the dam.

Those who are attending, expect to start seeing emails from me late next week with all of the details.

Everyone is welcome if there is any question about attending. If anyone is still on the fence about attending, hopefully this update will sway your decision.

It is shaping up as an epic gathering and everyone will have a great time.

Alright, last call... The remaining hotel rooms will be released Sunday morning.

An email has been sent to everyone that is confirmed to date, with several more to follow.

I am glad we moved the date back a week as the temp yesterday was 108 and today is 106 with tomorrow only to be 102* :diablo:... Next weekend looks much better with the mid 80's to low 90's.

There is one concern is that is fire. A fire started a couple days ago just north of where we are projected to ride. The skies over Oakdale today are orange due to the smoke and by listening to the radio as it is present where we are riding. So lets hope the fire stays north and no new fires pop up where we are going. If they do we will find another series of roads as there are plenty of good ones.

For those attending get ready, based on a suggestion from the man traveling the furthest to attend, we are going to roast a pig for the Saturday night meal. Friday will also be BBQ fare as well with drinks provided.

Shuttle service to & from the hotel will be provided as well so that bikes can be secure inside the shop and no one drinks & rides.

I think we are going to get lucky with the weather and the fire pit will occur with the evening temps dropping into the 50's.

If you are still on the fence and/or have any questions please let me know before I let the hotel rooms go.

This is going to be a good time.

Andy French where are you...

Alright guys, I have been assembling some items for a raffle/auction for this weekends 2015 Renegade Rally. I wasn't quite sure where the proceeds should go, but after reading this tonight there is no question in my mind.

http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=14578.msg147377#msg147377 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=14578.msg147377#msg147377)

So guys bring some extra cash for the auction/raffle. I am going to have RPM, Sena, Noco, Yamaha items here. I have already sent out emails to my suppliers tonight and asked for donations for the auction/raffle and I will be adding to the items as well.

If you look closely, there is one member who attended three FJ rally's in the span of seven days, Colorado Mini, East Coast Fall in Tennessee and 2015 Renegade rally in California.

After the ride to the end of highway 49.

In case anyone missed it this weekend, Pat is testing new "mini mirror fairings" that are supposed to keep mirror vibrations down.

We are just trying to work out a consistent way to make sure they are all the same shape, texture & color. Right now it has been difficult at best as they want to curve all different ways and the tips are getting burned...

What an amazing couple of days.....   Huge thanks to Randy and family for hosting the group.  The food was outstanding!!   A thank you to Mark Olson too....  Renegade Rally Founder....  this meet can no longer be considered an "also ran"......  the Renegade Rally has most definitely arrived!  Great to see old friends again and to meet new ones! Looking forward to the next one already.

Cheers!

It is very difficult to make Harley parts work on an FJ and make them fit like they belong.  Were these from an Electraglide?

Nice turn-out!
I may have to consider making it out for this one next year.  :pardon:

Mike Ramos, you are an Animal!
It was good to see you in Colorado. How many mile total was your "Rally Tour"?

Pat test fitted the parts himself before his beloved FJ.

Thank you Randy, Chandra and Robert for the wonderful event.
Thank you Craig and Mark for the great ride yesterday up to Loomis.

I am happy to report that the wind buffering deflectors worked as promised.
Expect to see them offered on the RPM website soon.

Although something needs to be done about the flies.
