References to groupism, cronyism, self-pride! Here? How absurd!

What are the lessons learned here?

Lessons learned? That this forum really, really needs an "ignore this thread" option.

"Reached a New Low"? Maybe you've forgotten Klavdy's hooker tears\anal lube post...

....and here I was, only a few days after "the best weekend of riding motorcycles in my entire life" for about the 20th consecutive rally, thinking "This group of FJ owners has reached a new high."

Consider it an anomaly, definitely not the norm. This site and its members are a source of valuable information and support for all things FJ. From time to time a new member comes along that tends to rub the other members the wrong way. In this case I believe it had to do with the asking for recommendations, getting them from experienced, knowledgeable members only to challenge those recommendations without actually trying them out first. I could sense the frustration. Should this member ask for future advice they will be lucky to get any for fear of immediate retribution. What upset me the most about the thread was the misuse of Rush lyrics in a feeble attempt to appear intelligent. I am a huge Rush fan (just ask my wife and she will nod and roll her eyes simultaneously) so I'm offended on two levels - as an FJ owner and a Rush fan. Kind of reminds me of the time when Jerry Seinfeld was offended as a comedian that Tim Whatley converted to Judaism just for the jokes (also a big Seinfeld fan). Anyway, it is what it is. This too will pass... (not a Rush quote).

That's all I have to say about that (Forrest Gump)

I second that.

I would like to relay a story.  I was on line with the forum for a year or so and decided to attend a rally.  Having never really met any of the members, there was one member that I thought I might not get along with because of his on line "persona".  But I decide what the hell, I can always move on down the road.

Well as it turned out this seemingly arrogant, rude, blunt, foul individual really didn't have horns coming out of his head,  In fact he is a down right nice, polite, quiet, considerate, civil, mild mannered, straight shooter, and caring individual.  Not only did I enjoy his company he or his family are welcome at my place anytime.

Moral is try not to judge anyone to harshly by there on line posts until you meet them.  You might actually like them. That's one reason I encourage everyone to attend a rally and sit around the camp fire.  To my recollection Leon is the one that said "the forum is just something to do between rallies".   :drinks:

+1.  I've had a big slice of humble pie from time to time. Learn from it, build a bridge and get over it.

Eeeeeeeeee
Lessons in life lad, what a conundrum.
After reading most of the thread in question, it brought to mind these pearls of b/s.
Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
This site is, without doubt, the greatest forum on the web and we're more than fortunate that it just happens to be all about our lovely bikes. Undeniably it has been directly responsible for the resurrection of, by now countless fjs, thus it's legendary, selfless knowledge givers are beyond reproach and guaranteed positions of honorary saints.
Leopards and their spots
Whether it be in cyber life or real life, those that insist on being nobheads in one are probably nobheads in the other.
I was trying to recall other old chestnuts, but the mental effort has become too much at this stage of the evening.
In conclusion then,
should thou discover disenchantment with the fjowners pose, one should fade away quietly n'er to disrupt Yamaha harmony again. So moat it be.

The name is unimportant.  It was the on line vs real world experience that I wanted to relay.  My lesson learned.  On line persona's can be deceiving.

Don't let Derek fool you.  Anyone that has ever met Derek or Donna knows they are wonderful people and you as I am would be proud to call them friends.

Go to a rally !

I won't put words (or names) in your mouth George, but I had thoughts that Klavdy was maybe, the worlds biggest horses ass..............UNTIL, I actually got to meet him in person at the 2012 WCR. What a pleasant person to be around, I couldn't get enough of him, and I cherish the photo we took together, a great keep sake.

So I would agree that everybody needs to get their ass to a Rally, any rally, and get to know us. I haven't met a single one of us that I didn't like, and even more than that, I consider many very good, close personal friends of mine. Any judgments against anyone based solely on what is said/ read on a forum, is very bad way to get to know us.

Of course as to this we disagree 100%.  A thread to bash someone, really?? Careful or one might sense that it exemplifies that which the OP sought to dispel.

I've been listening to Rush since I've first seen them, in 1974, their first tour, as backup, (opening act) for "Manfred Mann's Earth Band," and the Headliner, "Uriah Heep."  I own all their albums, been to more of their shows than any other band, even my favorite band "Yes."  I've always appreciated them mainly because of Peart's lyrics, which is why he's been known as "The Professor," due to the false rumor that he has a PhD in the Literary Sciences.  His lyrics that I've quoted, I understand only too well, which is why I quote them.  Which is not to say that my use of them, shall not go over ones' head, as that's entirely possible.

A few more things to keep in mind:

If one has talked to few on a forum, it's understood, ("a no brainier;" "goes without saying"), that anything he says he directs to only those to which he's already spoken, I mean who else is there, but the wall.  Therefore anyone new that chimes in, saying anything demeaning or derogatory, when they "believe" they see something naughty, only does so in the interest of groupism; cronyism; to be a bully; part of a mob, because they believe that mobs rule; or they're always searching, looking for anything so as to fight, in either case, they are the ones that are wrong.  Especially when it's their very first attempt at addressing someone, previously only ever lurking, forming an opinion, most often born of preconceived notions that do not "necessarily" have any merit in that particular circumstance.

Additionally If someone makes a blanket (general) statement, it's understood, ("a no brainier;" "goes without saying"), that they are speaking only to those that it "applies" to, who it applies to, knowing who they are, such that those that take offense, then reeling, responding with venomous words, can only be those to which it applies, as the ones that it doesn't, take no offense, and therefore need not reply, as they know they were not being spoken to.  Such can be understood not only by the one making the general statement, but by any wise onlookers, of open mind.

I guard against being a participant of groupism, cronyism, or a mob, because there is no "real" victory in such an endeavor, rather only brute force, devoid of any real wisdom or intellect, not becoming of the modern insightful man of the day, instead a throwback to that of a far more basic man, maybe a neanderthal, though I wouldn't want to insult one. ;)

Am I talking "about" anyone here, or am I explaining my point of view for everyone to judge for themselves?  Is it for the sake of rhetoric? Is it what I have come to finally learn, independent of any particular forum or person? Shall it benefit anyone here, in any way whatsoever?  I cannot answer any of those questions for "anyone" other than myself.  But I believe it's important to ask all those questions of oneself before they respond to another, as if they "know" for "certain" what the answer is.

It's all about the benefit of doubt, which is something I myself am seriously working on, because I'm really sharp, and can often see venom in ones words, whether they realize it or not, sometimes words can be taken in several ways.  And I'm often guilty of taking the worst; for instance:  Early on, I jumped to a conclusion with Franks words, and responded badly, only seeing the worst meaning possible, he corrected me, with much politeness, then I reciprocated and apologized for holding him accountable for my error in judgement, funny then that he quits, so be it, I am only me, and he is only he.

If you really need to bash someone, make it me, I'm used to it, since I was 4, such is the story of my life.  But don't think you're "right" in doing so, as one day you might be drowning, and it's me that jumps in an saves your life, that's the way I am; I know someone that's alive today, because of it.

I feel the need to qualify this...

Coming from an area of Florida that's kinda' sleazy; Strip clubs and the like.

Inquire at the KOA check-in desk about local strip clubs in the Willets, CA area.

Word of this event is leaked upon our arrival in camp.

Strippers in the area? It seems that Pat Conlon is the one to see. _HE_ knows the place! Sure enough, he takes me to one local chain, but none were suitable for our requirements. We were directed to another hole-in-wall establishment down the street and around the corner.

Once Pat conveyed our specific needs, our nice lady attendant hooked us up, with a grin on her face!

As those that met her "can" attest, that's some of the best money I've ever spent on a stripper.

She passed through the hands of some of the other members throughout the week too, as I recall??

Hmmm???

Firstly, my apologies if I have offended you. I must admit I got my back up when reading through one of the threads. As I recall, you mentioned something to the effect that you always defend, never offend. Although that may be your intention and I am not questioning that, please be aware that whether something said or written is considered to be offensive or not is not typically up to the person who said or wrote it. I have done my fair share of offending (hurting, pissing off) others when it was not my intention to do so. So let me reiterate, my apologies if I have offended you and/or others and I sincerely hope that we can continue to keep this forum alive and healthy. And yes, that includes a healthy debate and difference of opinion now and again. I hope you get that FJ of yours running in tip-top shape so you can get out and ride! I've put approximately 90,000 km on my current '92 FJ and and 64,000 km on my previous '86 FJ over the past 20 years and they have been trouble-free...for the most part. My wife says I can get another bike in 4 years but at this time I'm not sure what it would be...

All the best,

Zwartie

And I quote "I originally thought you were one of the intelligent ones here..."  I'm not sure how to not be offended by that...  that sounds pretty judgmental and who the fuck are you anyway?

Then you go on to rant about my mob nature and what the fuck ever.

I said I was done and I am...  I doubt I'm smart enough to give you any advice anyway.

Frank

BTW - you were likely the kind of Enlisted guy I would have knocked heads with...  I think your head would have broken first.  Oh wait... I'm sure you think that's a threat or something.  It's not.  I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

+1 for post of the year for Pat...  Ride that damned thing and save your house.  I think that's the best advice you're going to get here in a nutshell.
Sorry you feel that way Frank, I originally thought you were one of the intelligent ones here, and could easily see when someone was simply DEFENDING themselves against naysayers. I thought you would be well above groupism and cronyism,
upism and cronyism...."

Ben's a good bloke.......

Absolutely...

I was citing Ben's comment about who decides if something is offensive.  I hope it is obvious who I'm trying to talk to here Pat...  Jo is the intended recipient...  I was offended by this particular rant of his and shutdown.  I didn't care enough to explain why, but Zwartie jumped in with a segway that I couldn't resist (wish I had already BTW...  not worth the effort I'm sure).

To be clear I meant +1 Zwartie and FU Jo.  The Navy reference at the end makes it clear I think (I was an Officer in the Navy, Jo was Enlisted...  we had a mini luv-fest over that earlier)

Hmmm, a viable exception to the ATGATT rule if ever there was one.   :good:  :good:

I would definitely piss on you, Frank!

Still clinging to the "me officer, you enlisted" mentality heh?  The only actual difference, being money.  And since then I've been. To college, that is.  Money can buy and sell many things, but it can never do that to me, how about you? Anybody?

Again Frank, I was only ever reacting to those that would throw stones before knowing if they really should, and due to my anxiety, and the nature of it's existence, I'm a little quick on the trigger of defense.  But then you already knew that, due to our first go around, that I apologized for, if you remember correctly.  The better man easily admits that he made a mistake. Or that he's capable of doing so.

And for the record, I don't believe that "just ride the fucker" or "ride the damned thing" qualifies as the best advice possible, actually they sound kind of loaded! With both impatience and disdain. Intentional?  Then seconded?  Wow! That's not how I "help" people.  Or at least I surely aspire not to.

If no one has anything "nice" or "constructive" to say, then why take the time to do otherwise, when it's much easier to just be a passerby, shaking their head, moving on to spend their valuable time, on something they actually care about.  Unless one only cares about selfishly letting another know that they're tired of them. That's just not me, nice, or what many would do face to face.  It tends to be a web thing, a frustration/stress reliever, at anothers expense.  And I always try and be bigger than play that game.

I just believe that politeness goes a long way. Until I'm insulted of course, then they deserve the exact same treatment, right. I'm talking to you's that believe you've been slighted?  Though with any sort of effort, misunderstanding can be sorted out, if the parties involved care to take the time.  Is it worth it?  Those that care might think so.

Then I've also never taken advantage of someone with an illness, but that's just me I guess. There's just no "real" victory in it, unless one is just as encumbered as the one with the illness of course; birds of a feather?  Or that's where one places oneself when they participate in such endeavors.

PEACE to all those that prefer it!  As it's just rhetoric for those that may find something contained within it.

P.S. The bike is still not capable of being ridden, in case you were wondering, carb problems still.  Thanks to all those that have and shall help.  It's always much appreciated, and shall always be payed forward, if I'm capable. ;)

Why is the bike not rideable? I recall in the other post that you had taken it out the other day and got it up to 85 mph.

I'm having problems with fuel dripping out of the...  well before I wasn't certain, but now it seems as though it's the orifice opposite the air jet on the rear (air box side) of carbs 1 & 2.  Thank god for the vacuum actuated petcock or the tank would go dry overnight.  It seems to be intermittent but with greater frequency as time has gone by.  It started immediately after using E10 and Lucas Ethanol stabilizer for the first time.  Up until then I was using 100% real gasoline with no ethanol.  I just can't keep paying $5.00/Gal for the good stuff.  Although it could have been a coincidence. Of course now it might be coming out of the overflow tubes, since the carbs are now on the bike again and as such are tilted forward instead of being level.

I have replaced the needle seat o-rings with the ones in Randy's/David's SS screw/o-ring kit, making sure to use the correct ones; also the needle valves (just yesterday); I have checked that the needle seats are in fact round, (not binding the needles), they spin freely; that the floats are square to one another, (that both floats provide the same amount of buoyancy), also that their swing is not being obstructed by portions of the carb body, (this can happen if they are misaligned due to an improper technique during tang bending, or other sloppy handling); set the float height to .88 in. +- .04 in. (pretty damn close anyway); made sure the float pivot pin is not bent, thus binding the free swing of the float arm; ensured the float needle seats mating surface has no damage or buildup; ensured that the floats are not taking on fuel, by lightly shaking them; and I have done a through cleaning by soaking the carb bodies. When I first opened the bowls to check out the situation, I did notice some sediment, what looked like iron oxide, though I did a through corrosion removal from the tank with Rusteco, ensuring to flush with water until it ran clear, still some could have been trapped in the tight crevices due to the design of the tank, then dried thoroughly with compressed air.  A fuel sample from the tank seems to be translucent. I finally got them to hold fuel on the bench, so I installed them again tonight, then synced and test drove, again the idle was racing about 2k after being ridden for a while, so tomorrow I'll readjust it, also the smell of fuel is obvious again, though I've seen no drips yet.  Also it's been running extremely rough during warm up coughing, sputtering, sometimes obviously not on all cylinders, due to flooding, I assume.  After it warms up and is running at other than idle, it smooths out, and runs pretty good, even at idle, but it has to be really warm.  When I turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes, even though it's still quite warm it starts all over again until I run it at higher than idle.  I see that this is due to being flooded, or so it surely seems.

It's really starting to wear on me.  I'm going to run it tomorrow, because I have to take my wife to work.  Obviously I'm not going to rest until I've stopped the wasted fuel/money/gas mileage.
