Title: Bushing vs bearing
Post by: fuel80guy on March 14, 2014, 03:28:57 PM
Im doing the rear shock f4i mod on my 85.
Im unable to get the bearings for the bottom bolt locally but i can probably get a bushing made.
Any thoughts on bushing vs bearings would be appreciated.

What is the bearing size you need? Bushings will not last as long and tend to have more friction in high load dynamic applications. If you can get a Teflon lined bushing then it will last longer and have less friction. Bearings are the way to go if you can source them. My 86' has an odd ball size bearing that I sourced through Kaman, it took a week to get them. I guess the other question is how fast are you looking to get them?

I got mine from a local business that rebuilds electric motors. They deal with odd sized bearings on motors. Monkey what's Kaman?

I assume he's referring to this place:

https://ec.kamandirect.com (https://ec.kamandirect.com)

VERY cool source!  Do they sell to the general public in small quantities?

Hello fellow Grimsbyite I to am doing this mod but all my stuff is still across the border at CBI USA Niagara Falls.
I got all of the bearings for my rocket from BDI on grays road Idid not check with them but had a hunch they might come up empty.I asked fellow forum member if he would get them for me an he obliged, much appreciated John. All I need to get of the big stuff are the brakes and tires.Where are you in town maybe I can pop by and have a look at your steed.

To all Ontario FJer's interested in bearings for the F4 shock. as suspected these ARE available at your more comprehensive non mickey mouse industrial bearing supply. Eg.    BDI on  Grays Rd Stoney Creek..

IKO bearing
TLA1812 18X24X12
TLA1816 18X24X16

INA/FAG  HK1816 2RS the rs on this one already comes with seals $15 bucks the ones above $6 bucks each seals extra.
