Does anyone know on my 1989 fj1200 how many pistons inside the caliper are suppose too engage. They are seized inside the caliper, I took a little heat and used my compressor to push them out, but only one popped out.

andyb

ALL OF THEM!

If it's seized, order the kit(s) and do it all.  And ffs don't drive the thing if you're shy on braking power, unless you're a proper nutjob.

That's what I thought, but wasn't 100%. Thank you for your knowledge

The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I thought the '89 was a four pot caliper.

fj11.5

Yep ,89 is a 4 pot per caliper,
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

WildeCoyote, you need to post up some good pictures of your bike!
I want to see that paint job! Hard to see with the size of your avatar, but it looks really cool! :good:

I think you should be able to unbolt the two halves if your front calipers are stock '89.............might be easier to completely disassemble them for cleaning/rebuilding..........
Or just source a pair of R6/R1 calipers from an '03 or earlier bike on ebay.......they bolt right on, and use the FJ rotors!

For the cost of this set of Blue Dots and a new set of brake pads, you would be way ahead of paying for rebuild kits for the OEM calipeers.
