Dean had YZF600 monoblocs (early blue dot) on his 92 with the ABS functioning.

Hi,
quick question, first I have a 93 FJ non ABS and I was wondering, are the blue dots direct bolt on and no mods to the support or M/C or is it recommended to change the M/C.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, yes the non radial blue/gold/polka dots bolt right on your '93 fork legs.

The master cylinder (m/c) you have on your '93 has a piston diameter of 5/8" (16mm)
If you look closely you can see the 5/8 cast on the body of the m/c.

Many folks continue to use the stock master cylinder and see no problem with doing so...

Personally, I don't like it the wooden feel of the stock m/c when used with the upgraded R-1 calipers.
I tried the FJR m/c which is a 15mm and it was better.
I now have the FZ-1 m/c which is a 14mm piston and I like it the best. The smaller piston needs a longer stroke to move the equal amount of fluid and this longer stroke gives a better feel to the lever at threshold.

Put on the calipers first, then try your oem m/c and see how it feels. You might be happy with that.
If you want better modulation, bypass the FJR (15mm) m/c and go straight for a 14 mm m/c
The 14mm m/c is a popular size used by several different manufacturers, so you don't necessarily need to get a Yamaha m/c.

This is my opinion based on my experience. Your mileage may vary.

I do want to try one of those new fangled radial m/c's....
...but I just can't get over the idea of spending all day looking at a urine cup.

That's great information, now I understand how it works. Just working on the headlight relays right now, not pretty but at least it's going to be hidden. Then upgrade the front brake lines then change the calipers.  As you said, I'll see how it feels with the stock M/C and go from there. Thanks for the info.

Just carve a coffin shaped reservoir out of a block of AL and fashion a mount to the bar!
