When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

The 'F' stands for 'Four' as in four-cylinder, apparently. and the 'J' I think stands for the version (I guess 'A' - 'I' were inferior) -kind of like "Formula 409" -formulas 1-408 were failures...

Others will correct/ amend what I said.

Following that logic: The "X" in XJR stands for X-cylinders?

I think the first letter "F" designated the type of bike it is (F=Sport Bike, X=Standard Bike)
The second letter "J" means that it is an inline 4-cylinder, air-cooled (Z=Liquid cooled)

My Seca was an XJ
My Vision was an XZ

Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin to it.......... :sarcastic:
