Pod filters the issue with my rejet?

I have been doing some research about pod filters or uni-pods on CV carbs and many people say its just a bad idea. The only real reason I added them is because I hate the fatory air box and I mean hate like I want to shoot and break stuff. I bought new jets for my bike and I went from a lean bike that wouldn't idle without choke to now a bike that floods and won't start and I am curious to know if the pods are the real issue? Did I make the mistake on this because the carbs were not really properly tuned and synced before I am like super depressed that I bought this bike and have had it for a month and have not been able to ride it one day. Any advise or anything would be appreciated.

Changing main jets shouldn't make her flood, maybe if you fitted large pilots :scratch_one-s_head:,, possibly the float level is wrong and she's over filling the bowls

You made the mistake of letting some 'expert' specify a jet kit for you...

Instead of listening to us, after all, what do we know?

So...your bike is flooding with #45 pilot jets...go figure... :dash1:

Don't blame it on the pods. Blame it on your expert...

I cannot make the exact recommendation but there are folks here who can.  Also check the files section, there are good discussions on how the cv carb works.  One of the key variables is elevation.

For our 86 we added pods but kept stock exhaust.  In the end we did not have to change any jets.  Our elevation is 3500- 4000 feet.

Be sure the carbs are very clean, especially the enrichener circuit.  Also make sure the choke is full on.

Learning carbs (ie cleaning) on these is a rite of passage.  Good luck....ps how is the paint coming?

You bought a jet kit that is big enough to run a Legend car on.

It has nothing to do with the filters...unless you are using paper media filters then you have an issue with filtering, not tuning.

Depending on you altitude, you should have a 40 or 42.5 pilot jet and the main jet is going to be 112.5 to 117.5. The needle should also be shimmed up as well.

Yep pretty hard to beat....three of us bought a ultrasonic cleaner but I am still tempted just to send them to Randy.  The shipping is the killer from Canada.  And the USPS now cancelled their econ offering so the minimum is about $35.00 as compared to "free" for some items shipped to a US address (ie Ebay). 


So I now have to organize to buy in batches and have goods shipped to a US address, or get someone like George to pick up for me!  Thanks again :hi: :hi:

Do not expect any pity from AUS or NZ...must be very expensive.

It actually has nothing to do with the cost of the postage its the time they have to spend in organising the customs forms and packing, this is why Randy is so good to deal with, you may want to try some of the alternatives, myus.com , usa2me.com, now it usually costs about $50 a yr to belong to these mailing sites but the cost of postage is a lot closer to the actual cost, a lot of the bigger companies actually charge nothing or minimal amounts for postage in the US.

Wow I did not know you offered that service Randy. I will return these jets and get my like $80 back there and send them to you. How do I get them shipped to you? Like what address do I send them to? I may just send them in a flat rate box just to save the money on shipping but I can't beat that deal.
