I came up with this particularly apt name after trying to drive it for the first time!

Assuming it`s all connected in the pic (Optical illusion excepted) Toe in (alignment) of chair is very wrong. (Looks like a toe out!) Which is probly why "it shakes ya all about!"  I bet it tries to turn you around! Which of course is not what it`s all about!  :pardon:

wow - thanks for that information, I knew something wasn't right - even as a complete novice I suspected is wasn't meant to rip the bars out of my hands and go careering to the nearest footpath!

It was connected in that pic, I've temporarily split the combination to allow easier access to the bike components for fixing a few issues (and getting an MOT on it).  I've now read quite a lot on the subject of aligning the chair - not sure how to measure the toe yet, I guess this will be a bit of trial and error.

I suspect the bloke I bought it off was telling a pork-pie when he told me it was professionally fitted and rode well - I trailered it home as the bike was a non-runner when I got it.

Anyway, are the pics any good to you with the chair detached?

Any motorcycle I have past, present or future will be loosely referred to as "the sanity saver". No formal nicknames.

There was an FJ here with a Wiseco kit, flat slide carbs, etc. and it is called "Hell Raiser". It's been parted out and the engine lives in an FJ1100 frame now.

OMG..... :shok:....it's a side car !!!!!!  :praising: ..... I have never seen a side car on an FJ before....no wonder I didn't know what I was looking for.........wow.......different for sure......

Good thinking Dan. (As Usual). (I was actually also concerned for lean out angle too but a bit hard to tell for sure from the pic). Sorry for going considerably off thread. I did put the following in a link under the thread " Re: Anyone else with an FJ and sidecar?" copy as follows .......Performing the Alignment

The sidecar should be level or as close to level as you can get it both fore and aft and left to right. Left to right can be measured by using a square with the sidecar wheel.

The motorcycle should have about 2-3 degrees of lean out, away from the sidecar. In no event should the bike be tilted toward the sidecar.

If you make a line 6 feet in front of the bike that is parallel to the motorcycle wheels on the left and the sidecar wheel on the right (a chalk line tied to jack stands or two long board along each side of the wheels works well for this measurement) there should be about 1½ inch of toe in (of course if it is 3 feet in front of the bike it would be about ¾ inch).

Again, this is only a starting point but will get you close.

After this, it is trial and error to try and get the rig so that it does not pull left or right when braking or accelerating. The process can be a little frustrating the first time, but some patience will go a long way. After the first time it will be much easier. Time spent aligning the car is time well spent.....

Interestingly, I do know of one that`s parked regularly outside of such a profession. I think he calls it "The Settler"....and yes it`s an FJ...which is why he`s not a patient.

Sorry Mate, Nuthin historicle, just FJ1 for my first one, then FJ2 (recently sold) and FJ3. But the next one has a good chance of being called "FJ4 and a half"  :biggrin:

Yeah that`d still be good mate. I particularly wanted to view square type bracketing that fits the "square type" FJ perimeter frame. But pics of the adjuster rods with mounting position would be good too. Suggest you (reply) post it under your other thread " Anyone else with an FJ and sidecar?"  Cheers, Doug Mc
