Missing at cruising speed and accelerating (Misfire)

I actually ended up finding the solution to my problem, but decided to post anyway, just in case someone came across the topic with the same problem.

My bike was missing really bad, and would sometimes load up with gas and stall out.  I thought maybe it was bad gas, so I dropped in some octane booster and a gallon of new gas.  The problem stayed the same, so I started running through the electrical system.  Battery, pick-up coil, primary coil, secondary coils, then finally the spark plug caps.  I found one of them to be at 26,000 ohms, well above  the 10,000 limit.  Replaced it with a spare I had, and now it runs better than it has in a long time; leading me to think that it's been a slight problem for awhile.  I plan on getting the NGK aftermarket ones soon, but for right now she's running good.

Extra questions though.
1. The sticker under the seat says 91 (leaded) for gas.  Has anyone ever put in a little bit of leaded race fuel for fun?

2. Does anyone have the measurements for the front forks? Say, if I wanted to have a friend machine a fork brace for me.

Randy has fork braces at www.rpmracingqa.com

His 2nd gen are better than the first...

Back when I was running my 2-smoke, I ran VP C-12 in her.... If it sat for more than a week, I'd drain it and dump the old in my FJ. She LOVED it! Normally I run 87 and she runs fine on it, but it ain't the same as the C-12 premix (usually ~ a gallon) added to a 1/2 tank of unleaded.   :yahoo:

After reading the first post by Ghostmerc I went and tested my NGK spark plug caps and got readings of 5.2 to 5.8 ohms.  I read on another site that NGK made plug caps of 0 ohms, 5k, and 10k ohms.

Why would the PO put lower value caps on the FJ instead of the specified caps?

Anyone?

cheers, Gareth

I just did a little research and discovered the recommended cap is SD05FP:
http://www.ngksparkplugs.ca/results-motorcycles.cfm?model=empty&enginesize=1100&make=YAMAHA&apptype=Motorcycle

on NGK's own decoding chart that type of plug cap would be 5K ohms:
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/docs/resistor_covers.pdf

So although I have the correct spark plug caps, is there an advantage in using 10K ohm caps?

Try U4.4 if you can find it.  Pretty heavily oxygenated, smells good both before and after combustion.

Good for 2mph in the 1/4mi in my experience.

Looks like I'll have to try a little bit of race fuel soon.

I would definitely buy one of Randy's fork braces in a heartbeat, IF I had the money.  :sorry:

I'm thinking that the higher resistance needs more power to spark. 10k cap with relay mod, or 5k cap with standard ignition.  If the resistance is too low then there's not so much a spark, as there is  a continuous loop of power.
