And when you watch that episode, you can see me in my Thunder Roadster rounding turn 11 at Sonoma.

A friend had a license plate cover that was suppose to make it unphotographable. I don't know if it worked or not. He claimed it did.

Trivia:
How fast do have to go so that a speed camera can't record you ? I was told number once in AZ but have no idea it is accurate.

In practical terms your are correct. The answer as I understand it lies in the aperture and shutter speed of the camera. At the distance's most cameras are placed I would guess they shoot in the range of F8 to have a small amount of depth of field. Day light shutter speed would most likely be a max of 1/250th of a second to capture any shadow detail of the driver. I was told you have to be traveling in excess of around 250 MPH.
In AZ driver's have been reportedly photo clocked at 180mph. While I was there a local was clocked multiple times and days doing 140 mph.. Nice to have money, or be an attorney (or both)...
The true answer is I don't know, but pretty damn fast...... Think Bonneville.

When I had my FJ1100 and I was not of legal drinking age yet. I pinned the speedo at 150 MPH once, just to see if it would do it. Now that I have the 1200 and only a few years from being 50. I have no desire to see what this one tops out at. I am happy that it will run 75-85 MPH with bags and trunk, all day and in comfort.

I think it all depends on the camera.  Top Gear did prove it can be done, although it was a number of years ago.

3 attempt.. won't bother posting the previous two videos..

Current goal is to be able to lean it over to the 95% indicator.  Now here is the question I have, how many FJ owners have found theirs?

What's the 95% indicator?

I'm guessing it's the point at which you make soft contact. Like the footpegs which will deflect, vs hard contact like the sidestand which wont...

And I've gotten the beast up to a whopping 75 so far...  :pardon: (Can't wait to get this motor broken in.)

took my J for a second short unlawful test ride, this time i was on it, late second gear roll(trying to be nice to 2nd). I blew 5th twice but was still trying to get used to the thrust vector on my eyes and distanced covered. I did not notice my speed but my revs were approaching critical. This bike lives up to everything I thought it was and what my buddies had told me who road them mid eighties. sure its not modern but it still fucking rocks! :wacko1:

Brad

When I got my bike I flew down to Sacramento, CA and rode it back after paying 600.00 for it.
And this was my test run on the way  back. =)

I would have been able to push it more had it not been for the cop I saw pointed the other way on I-5 (I live in Portland, OR FYI)

Arnie

I plead 'guilty' to being old, paranoid, and cautious after 46yrs of riding street bikes.
The FJ has probably the highest top speed of all the bikes I've owned or ridden during that time.
I've explored the performance envelope of my various bikes upon occasion when it seemed safe and reasonable to do so. (that should be my legal "out" :-)
This thread seems to be pretty stupid, IMO.
To brag on an open forum of how you've flouted the law just invites general harassment from the LEOs who might read it, for FJs and bikes in general.
My Apriia has a computer that retains highest speed since last reset.
I reset often to avoid possible self-incrimination.

Brad posted, "When I got my bike I flew down to Sacramento, CA and rode it back after paying 600.00 for it. And this was my test run on the way  back. =) Details snipped.

Aside from the interesting data shared, that was a real bonehead way to "test" his new bike.
He's purchased a 20+ yr old bike very cheaply and without even a reasonable check of its true running condition has traveled over 500 miles home much of it at high speed.  To do this on a bike he's not familiar with is not very intelligent.  To brag about it - just stupid.
At least he can claim to not having put 2 cans of RedBull in the tank on his way home, right?

I agree with Arnie on riding an unfamiliar bike far and fast. As someone who used to ride a couple of dozen bikes a week I am VERY cautious of old second hand bikes.

As far as deleting the max speed on the computer / GPS it's not really necessary. My riding buddy is a QC and we have had this discussion. He tells me, for a whole range of reasons, you won't get booked over information stored on it. It is technically possible but not probable.

For those of you that don't know, this is the information your GPS is storing as you ride, whether you ask it to or not.

Below is a random example found on the net.

You can for example, pick a "certain" speed achieved, on the graph, the icon over the map will line up with it, you can then go to satellite view, then to street view and then look at the exact piece of road you were travelling on at the time.
