I've only seen 130 indicated on mine.
At my age, that's really cooking.
The older you get, the faster you used to be!

145 mph according to the speedo on this road in Wyoming.  Once was enough.

Going to the WCR 119 and coming back 121 according to the GPS.... Allegedly...
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Oh, well if you're going to go by one of those things...

Probably just my bike but I find my speedo a little optimistic compaired to the GPS. Like 10 mph off.   Had mine up to 115 by GPS about a week ago and any higher I would have to be tucked in behind the windscreen.. I guess it was windy that day.
George

It is typical of Jap bikes, at least, for the speedo to be ~10% optimistic..... been that way since I can remember. Got my 1st jap bike in 1974.

10% over would be 459.4 MPH. Any takers???

Once 145mph on the meter and it was still pulling. This was coming back from a six day trip. Saddle bags, tail pack and tank bag, only about 40 pounds of gear. Look way down the road saw a vehicle coming towards me. Had that feeling it was a cop, slowed down to speed limit +5. Sure enough Sheriff in a bronco. That would have been a trip to jail. Had these radar jammiers called Illusion, these things were awesome. Now they use lazier. No workie any more. Saved me from a lot of tickets. Radar detector would go off 2 or 3 on ka band. I was never stoped. Used to go on these rides and spend over an hour at 100, 6000 rmp. FJ says wake me when we get there.

Before the mods I felt 90 mph was pretty ballsy. I've put 1000 miles on her since the mods. Like the brakes and the response she gives me when throwing into the twisters! Last week I took her up to 140 on the  speedo, so realistically 130 ish. She was wanting to stretch her wings a bit more butttttttttttttttt, I didn't!

Sat on 200kmh on effie easily, 18/38 gearing, coming back from launceston if anybody knows the area, lots of long straights and wide sweeping corners following a late model sports bike that went past me while sitting on 120k,s had to catch him, stayed with him for about ten minutes, only let him go for my licence safety  :scratch_one-s_head: he kept going,  didn't see the guy again, as for how fast havnt tried for full top end
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

I've seen 9,500 on the tach in 5th a few times back when it was all stock.  No guarantees thats accurate either, but it had to have been closer than the speedo, which was off the end past 165 at the time. Published magazine test data for the '89 says it was really 149 or 148 (I forget) so I'll go with that.

Felt pretty good the firsf time, my main shortcoming was gear, helmet was the wrong size. It was middle of the night on a weeknight on an interstate outside Farmer City, IL with catch fencing along both sides, so no worries about any animals larger than 4" diameter in the road. This was when the bike was so new, it was on the oem tires.

Did it enough subsequent times to be confident it wasn't a fluke, it would pull redline in top gear any time I had the room to wait for that last 500 rpm. It gets to 8500 pretty easily (even last month) and pulls 9000 readily enough, but it loses its urgency for those last few mph.

With a 170/60-17 instead of the factory 150/80-16, I'm sure it's not going quite as fast nowadays. My biggest constraint is the zip ties holding the bodywork together, I'm pretty confident about the bungee cords holding my briefcase on.

210kmh, but a rough road, shrinking gonads, and the fear of kangaroos bouncing out, soon had me backing off. When my brother owned it he reckons he got 240kmh out of it.
