Found a web site for a group of riders here in Salt Lake City. Went to my first ride yesterday. Weather was so so, raining around but was suppose to clear late morning to mid afternoon. Showed up and there were suppose to be ten riders, only four showed up. Younger guys, ridding sport bikes. Two 600 ninjas and one vfr800. So off we went to the canyons. I thought man I will be so out classed in the tight twistes. They were doing some full throttle straights and pulled away from me. I did not want to go that fast down this road, no margin for err, too many people. When we got to the turns in just a few I had caught right up. FJ was doing quite well, definitely holding her own. Ride was going ok when one of the fellows on a ninja totally blew a turn went up on the side of a hill. Looked like he was going to save it, hit some mud just as he was about to get back on the road and down he went. He was not banged up too bad. His right knee took the worst of it, he was walking and rode the bike home. That was the end of the ride. After that out of the canyon and we all went home.

I think it is great fun, being the "perceived" underdog, and then hanging right there with the hot rods.
Way to go Kurt.
Too bad about the "get-off", glad nobody was badly hurt.

Kurt,
Nice pics. Your bike looks good.

NancyK might have some words about mishaps in group rides. That's one of the reasons I usually prefer to ride at my own pace. Only competing with myself! (and only myself to blame...)

Thank you Steve. I learned that lesson a long time ago. When I was still racing, someone would pass, then a little later you would pass them back and never see them again. I like to ride where it's fun. Some days that's faster than others. Also depends who I am riding with.

Another group ride today. Mostly spent in the canyons. Went well and nobody crashed. Took this picture at a stop Wanted some when we were up on top but they didn't stop.

Kurt,

Looks like you had a blast this weekend. Looking forward to riding some twisties with you next month. You will have to take it easy on me. I have not ridden twisties in 17 years.  :shok:
