This is why I never pull up as the last vehicle.

Why in hell were the bikes stopped on a narrow shoulder with so much traffic and why did that car come to a complete stop?

There is more to this story that what appears.
Regardless, you have to stay heads up, like the camera bike did, to stay alive!

My XS750E met its end in a similar type of accident.  The car in front of me and I were waiting on oncoming traffic, so we could turn left, and some drunken moron hit me from behind.  An oncoming C-10 pickup hit my bike, and the left front wheel missed my head by about 18".

I remember once pulling up in traffic in the city. I heard the sound of tyres locking up, I took off between the lanes as soon as i heard it.
Turned out it was ahead of me in another lane that was still moving but I wasn't sticking around to find out.

Typical inattentive idiot behind the wheel,  Probably texting, watching a movie, making a coffee, or whatever, instead of watching what's going on in front of him/her.  The bloke on the bike did the right thing pulling over to the side of the road, if he didn't he'd be toast now.

When I'm out on the bike I'm switched on, alert, and with eyes wide open, and it shits me when the authorities keep blaming the bike rider for being in the wrong when there's an accident instead of the car driver.

If only they were as aware as we have to be, then there migh'nt be as many accidents as there are.

Too young to be old but old enough to know better.

It's also a fact of life that headlines will mostly lead with "Motorcycle involved ..." or "Truck driver involved . . ." conveniently omitting the other half of the equation that usually started the incident.

The audio indicates that the oncoming traffic was a funeral procession, which is probably way the Chevy pickup crossed the double yellow (he appeared to be trying to block the intersection for it).  I guess the hearse was already by when the camera got there.

I heard this with my very own ears on the radio last year.

A 4WD did an illegal U-turn in front of a bike and the rider was killed. They had a live cross to a cop at the scene.

He said: "I don't know when these motorcyclists are going to learn, fortunately, no one in the vehicle was seriously injured."
