"Jet Kit" available?

By jet kit I mean like a shim kit - that is - a bunch of jets in a box for rental where we exchange our old ones (or just purchase the ones we use)...  No local dealers where I live will do an exchange and I'm getting a little tired (and broke) purchasing jets to get my bike dialed in, and it seems wasteful purchasing jets I'll never use again for testing.  Has this been discussed at all?

Some history:  Purchased my '84 FJ1100 17 years ago which was stock except for V&H 4:1 exhaust and K&N air filter in the air box.  I now run Yosh slip on's & UNI filter in the air box and the bike ran ok after changing to leaner main jets to compensate for the change in exhaust, but it suffered from poor fuel economy (mid 30's miles/gal at best) and black spark plugs.  Tired of that for the past 12 years I decided to go through the carburetors replacing all the diaphragms and jets and emulsion tubes etc... (via RPM).  btw when replacing the jets, I found the air pilot jet were completely missing!

The 47.5 fuel pilot jet my bike had in it look like this (cross holes), but I believe are too rich:



The 37.5 fuel pilot jet supplied in the kit are too lean and look like this (no cross holes):



Fook, I'll go broke if I purchase four each of 40, 42.5, 45 with and without cross holes to determine what will work best...  Maybe I'm just ranting and venting, but any thoughts, input, tales of experience would be welcome.

The cross holes do not make any difference in the jet. The metering potion of the pilot jet remains the same, the microscopic hole opposite of the threaded portion.

Years ago, someone put the cross holes in the jet to help keep the jet cleaner. It give a place for debris to escape the jet during the machining & cleaning processes.

So, I can tell you are going to be in the range of the 40 or 42.5 range. The 45's are big and not used in most applications without additional modifications such as port & polish, pod filters, full flow exhaust, etc.

I do not foresee a "jet kit" in the future...

Good info, thanks Randy.  Local shop has 40's and 45's for $4/ea but no 42.5.  I'll try the 40's.

im down with the idea though.... I have a box of stock and stage 1 dynojets the po of my fj gave me... im willing to do a little deal like Randy is doing with the shims.....get it started at least. I have no idea what sizes or anything...just let me know if someone wants too...mine are for the 1200 though

The problem with a jet exchange is some people drill them out to be larger size (this very imprecise who knows what you will get) . You think your getting one size but it is completely different. This maybe why the dealer will not exchange?

Drilled jets ,, was the reason I couldn't get effie to stop running rich,  with nothing to compare them too I thought I had standard main jets,  when infact I had about 135# mains not 112.5. ,,

The other, more obvious problem with a kit like that is that you could probably cover 95% of the FJ owners with a halfdozen jet sizes, so it'd have plenty of the others, but none of those

Do you have any 42.5 pilot jets (non drilled variety)?  Funny, when I was talking to friends about this, the first things outta their mouth was to drill them out!

It's not as rough as you make it sound. Unlike some mods, it is common practice. I have several sets of jet drills, and still use them occasionally.

That was my only issue with that, the integrity of the number.  Makes sense to sand it off though

nope no pilot jets. it did include a drill bit to drill them out
