Just saw a thread on here where a bunch of guy's where bad mouthing Harley riders, I've been riding Harley's all my life, until a couple of weeks ago when I bought my first FJ, when I rode my Harley I would wave at anyone and everyone regardless of what bike they where riding, Most Harley riders I have met have been decent people, There has been exceptions too, I've met some that where real jerks, Both on Harley's and on sport bike's like the FJ's, I would like to hope that most people that ride would be courteous to others no matter what type of bike they where on, we need to keep in mind that weather we ride an FJ or a Harley, or a Suzuki, or what have you, we all have the same love In our hearts, that is to ride, Thanks for reading my rant, Keep riding and stay safe, Shawn

Shawn, your new so I can help you understand the HD rant. Many of us also own or have owned HD bikes and if not, at least have some appreciation for other style bikes. The HD bashing is not against simply owning one, its against the few that own them and think the HD puts them in some higher class of human that needs to look down on all others. Don't worry that you owned/rode HD bikes or even still like them, I am cool with that as many in the club will agree. This site that Marsh put together was as result of a few single minded and highly opinionated (antagonistic is understating it) members of the Yahoo site that really tainted the purpose of having this kind of venue. Marsh broke away, set up his own web site, and we now refer to it as our digital campfire. Opinions are offered freely when given with the understanding that if you would not say it face to face to another member at the campfire, then it should not be said. Rest easy, we stir up a lot of shit and things get heated but we seem to self moderate and stay mostly civil to our FJ brothers.

The South Park episode on this will help you understand the bashing... I am sure you will get a few laughs out of it. A short clip to help... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGyKBFCd_u4&feature=player_detailpage

Shawn, as FJ monkey said, plenty of guys here have owned or do own Harleys. The bashing goes in waves. Someone will post something, everybody else chips in, has a laugh and then it goes away again for a while.

But you must admit they do provide some brilliant material. Just look on the net.

It is all tongue in cheek, as you will realise after you get a feel for the forum.

You will also notice just as much, probably more, piss taking between owners of the various model/colour FJ's.

Your bike, your country, the state you live in are all fair game for a bit of good humoured ribbing.

The forum has a lot of light hearted banter and along with great technical experts we have some resident comedians.

Shawn,

Since I was likely part of the "bashing", I will also speak up to clarify.  I wave at scooters, Harleys, even the occasional bicycle when they wave at me.  Two wheeled brotherhood I suppose, but really I just assume people are decent unless they prove otherwise...  and I have no issue with Harleys.

Once you get to know the "bashers" I think you'll conclude they're just decent people (even Klavdy) ribbing each other or the brand.  I appreciate the joking, join in when I can, and try to not let anything from this group offend.  Monkey's comparison of our site to a virtual campfire is a good one, but it is a campfire surrounded by sometimes drunken bikers throwing shit...  just take it in the spirit of fun and you'll fit right in.

Now that we know of your extensive Harley background...  got any new Harley jokes to share?  My personal favorite is still "Harley Davidson - State of the art technology for turning gasoline into noise without producing any measurable power" although "9 out of 10 Harley's are still on the road, the other one made it home" is a close second.

I love the south park shows, I missed that episode, on the thread about the Harley rider's ,Just would like to see everyone getting along, regardless of the name on the bike, I'm sure some that replied to that thread was meant as just humor, but some where true to there word, As one who truly loves to ride, I would like to see all who love to ride just be like brother/sisters weather they've known each other for years or just met in passing, riding is a very big passion of mine, just that it bothers me to see other who love to ride bad mouthing other who love to ride because of the bike they ride, I know I must sound like a goody two shoes, I promise I'm not, but I try to not promote hatred under any circumstance, Weather it's riding a bike or color of ones skin, any form of hatred is a form of racism, And I believe it's part of the decay of our society.

I think we all agree with you Shawn.

Carrying around hatred for __________ (fill in the blank) is like drinking poison hoping the other person dies...

But cut us some slack until you get to know us better.....we do love to tease each other....

Yeah, suck it up Mate. Believe me you`re statement has actually won you a lot of respect (from me included). I got some mates that ride Harleys and they give as much as they get. But I gotta tell ya, I don`t know if it`s the delivery, the simple content of the statement, or the mood I was in, but I have never physically laughed so much on this forum as when I read the coffee statement from springy. ... I know, I know I`m a sick simple bastard.. but with wet pants.  :rofl2:

Things are getting deep around the digital campfire, hey throw me a beer! Bikes two wheels, a throttle, and most of us who ride them are damn good folks. The make of bike we ride is a choice, like everything else we do. Hey throw me another beer! Our bikes are hobbies, we love to ride, enjoy the wrenching, and chicks dig them. Some golf, some paint, and some crazy people run like Forest Gump. We all enjoy what we enjoy. Shit out a beer, keep it up on two wheels guys, it's our interest and it helps keep us insane! And chicks dig them.
I ride Harleys, Yamahas, and Hondas. I'd even ride a gsxr but the wife doesn't like me going over 180. Most of all I enjoy the people I ride with, and the beer! And chicks dig them!! Seriously

Shawn,
Go watch the South Park episode in question (South Park, Season 13, Episode 12, "The F Word"), then come back and join us for a laugh:

You need to be aware of how Harley riders have been portrayed in mainstream media lately. Then you'll get the joke. (All the kids who watch South Park do!)

While you're busy feeling sorry for yourself and put upon by those who start with the position that Harley riders are a-holes and not worthy of being part of the motorcycling fraternity.....
maybe you need to take a bit of a look at yourself and your actions that might turn folks off.

I have friends who do ride harleys, and ride them well, they seem to be exceptions to the general harley rider attitude.  They are pleasant to other riders, they wave back, they stop to help riders broken down on the side of the road (even if on bikes other than H-D).  They don't wear "colors", and they don't have all those (intended to be) intimidating stickers on their helmets like yours does.

You can be all passive-agressive here and have many bending over backwards to welcome you.  You can claim to not understand why others may be wary of you, but I will remain wary until you've shown yourself to be unlike the stereotype of the typical H-D rider.

I also understand your abbreviated riding gear, having lived in LV many years ago, but I think you're placing yourself at high risk without some gear that will give you some protection from the road while still not adding to the heat load.

Can I chime in? Most Harley jokes around here are in good fun. As with any group there are some that portray a bad image to the sport and cause problems. LOT's of sport bike riders that are disrespectful of traffic laws, wearing shorts, flip flops and hauling there girl friends around with flip flops, shorts and thongs riding up to the middle of there back. Ever wonder why sport bike's seem to get profiled on the highways. They are taking some of the heat off the Harley's  :sarcastic:.

I am not a Harley fan, but then again I am not a Ducati fan either but I do respect all riders that enjoy and promote to sport. I don't classify people because what they ride.  Life is way to short to isolate people for stupid reasons. I try to wave at all the riders that I can and try to respect everyone on and off the road as much as possible (not perfect). If they act inappropriately (hence referred to as ass holes) I TRY to just smile and move on.
