Good thinking with the drill, ruled out the front hub. The cluster is different kind of a cluster to get at. Not terrible, just more time.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I had a bit of a mis-hap with my headlight wiring the other night..I didn't have any tools with me..I was able to use a key to get all but one of the screws out..and is a little hissy fit I broke the front faring  :dash2:
I have a feeling that the bike is gonna go to the 'Mad Max' look. If I do that I will go with an aftermarket speedo and tack.
But you just never know with me..I change my mind more than my underware...lol If I keep the stock stuff I will keep that in mind. Thank you very much for the info.  :hi:
I will also post the picture of where the back part of my front fender fell off..oopsie  :wacko2:  (for those of you in the Portland area I pulled the total ninja move on Wednesday...I was taking the 205 to 84 exit at a wee bit over the speedlimit, and my front fender broke off...without skipping a beat or slowing down..I was able to grab it as the speedo cable was keeping it there...and ripped it off, I did a little littering and left it there on the side of the road..I didn't have anywhere to put it and thought I would go back later if I thought I could really use it again..lol)

I know you believe you`re all about (previous quote) "cheap", but we can see the first symptoms (only a sniffle so far) of a digital campfire virus.
... ummmm...When Mad Max invades Europe (aug 2014) how mad will the virus have infected him?

Here,...use my handkerchief and go buy a fork brace to fix you`re next rear section of tha front fender.  he hehe  :drinks:

I know...shame on me..the brace is still ok.
I guess I should watch my choice of words. When I was talking about the Jet kit I am all for going an inexpencive way instead of buying some aftermarket product that charges twice as much that does the same thing, but if you notice..I was fully willing to do that.
As for the speedometer, I know about how fast I am going by what gear I am in and what RPM I am going....I am not worried about a speeding ticket because I know when i am going way over.
Maybe 'Mad Max' was also a bad choice of words after doing a google search for what I wanted to do with the bike...
My thought's are more of a no faring kind of thing. I like an empty 'clean' look. I like being able to see the motor on the bike. My front faring was already messed up before I got the bike. The bike runs pretty good for being ridden as much as I do and only paid 600 for it.
It needs some work, but right now I don't have a place to work on it. I am not trying to be some 'cheap' dirtball...I like the look I am thinking about...and I guess it is not the Mad Max look.
I will keep searching for pictures of what I am wanting to do...I am pretty decent at photoshop...so maybe I can do it that way and get a better Idea of what I want to do.

The bike needs a ton of work right now...but it is the only thing I have to drive right now. So I know it is bad to ride something in such bad shape..but I don't really have a choice right now.
I just don't want to put money into some areas that I might change as custom later. I had the bike for a year before I even thought of buying the speedo cable...it would be cool to know how many miles I have put on it..but for the most part I already know I am speeding.  :yahoo:
Not really sure what you mean by the hanky comment...I knew I needed a front fender. I know the wiring needs work..I know the seals and carbs need work.
Its a 1984 and is ridden every day..I don't ride in the snow that is about it, it's going to have problems..and when it does..I fix them...

Happy Friday everyone!
Time to get my gear on and go for a ride.

Worst part about reading what someone is typing is you can't tell the tone...I am a happy biker and fun guy...I am just not made of money..to me ridding is everything..do I like ridding a junk bike...no..but I don't have a choice. I hate driving a car..I do own one but the only time I get in it is if the bike is down for some major reason or if I have to pick up my kids in the rain. The bike has new rubber and rides true and straight. It is a work on progress.
I am either taking your post wrong or I just don't understand it.
My plan I guess would be more of a "bare bones" look. I don't plan on going 'cheap' before I ship it over. I have a spare motor for the bike. Before I go over I will have a very nice motor doing in it, all of the wiring will be redone, and it will have a new paint job. I am broke because I am saving all of my money for the trip over there. I had thought about renting a Ducati while I was there, but thought it better to put the money into a bike I will already know like the back of my hand. I am picking up a second job to fund the bike. I would NEVER try to ride this thing that far in this condition.
I am sorry.. I think I just took your post wrong.  :hi:

Sorry Mate, it`s my warped sense of humour. (and my total disregard for cultural comprehension differences) Hankies (handkercheifs) are the most common medium to spread a virus (particularly influenza). I was using the word metaphorically. Moditus is the virus your getting and it`s actually satisfying, but affects your wallet severely. I  am really looking forward to reading about your European adventures.  :drinks:

I am super excited to find this site! I have been doing a ton of reading. I can't wait to start on the next motor!:yahoo:
I am lucky enough to have the extra motor to work on while I keep ridding. I am loving this bike! I am quite sure I will be doing some fun mods...I just can't leave anything stock...maybe if that trip goes well..maybe your island will be next. :)
