Does anyone have a view on the role the meshed vents in the sidecover play in balancing air pressure behind the carbys at speed?

They certainly vent a lot of heat from under there...

I'd say their primary role is to help vent off heat from the engine (air flowing past the engine needs an outlet)

If it had any effect it would not be much, just too small.
