Hi All,

I have a need to replace rear suspension linkage arm bushes, items 1a and 15a in page below:

http://www.fjcatalogue.com/bearing.html

I have noticed that these are hard to find as original.

My questions is it possible to replace these original nylon ones with the FJ1200 1TX items 1 and 15 to have bearings and collars made from steel?

From the pictures the linkage arm looks the same for both FJ1100 and for FJ1200 1TX models.

Thanks for answers!

If it helps any, the bearings in the relay arm where it bolts to the frame (item 5 1988-1990).  Over the counter bearings  HK 1816,   18mm ID-24mm OD-16mm wide.  They are a little longer than the stock bearings but the 1988-1990 relay arm has no shoulder and it fits great.

If the bearing would work, you then have to come up with a sleeve to serve as a race 1988-1990, item 6.  Might stack 2 FJ spacers/sleeves. ? I think the bolt was 12mm thick ?

1988-1990 item 11, these bearings are Yamaha only 17mm ID-24mm OD-Yamaha # 93317-41761-00

Hi Movenon,

Thanks for answer but this wasn't what I'm looking for.

What I'm trying to find out is that is it possible to replace items 1a and 15a in picture below

with parts 1 and 15 in picture below

Because these are more easy to get and are made from steel and maybe last longer.

Any advices appreciated!

Thanks!

I see.   Well on that I don't know BUT it looks promising.  Have you checked to if the relay arm is the same part number (if it is then most likely "yes")?  I use this site to check part numbers but there are lots of others. http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/makes .

Mine is a later model and I have no experience with the early model relay arms.  Perhaps we can get some one else to chime in :).

Massez, which bike are you installing the new shock on? The FJ 1100?
what type of shock are you aiming for?

A lot of members have fitted the F4i shock on the 1100 and 1200 and it seems to be the most common and easiest to do. + the shock is cheap secondhand at eBay.

Check out this thread and see if it answers some of your questions:

I too am looking at a new rear shock and are considering the F4i.

This guy has tested some other shocks but they are new but made to fit your modell. Expensive.....

Hope this helps you out, at least some.

Massez is not trying to fit a new shock.
He wants to know if it's possible to replace the rear linkage arm bushes on an 1100 36Y, with ones from a 1TX, the first 1200.

What i'd do Massez, if the parts are cheap enough buy them and see if they fit.
Sometimes being a bit of a pioneer is the way to go if no-one else has tried it.

Ahh... Of cours  :dash2:
When i read it once more, I clearly miss understood..
Sorry if I mislead you Massez, but then I can't help you  :pardon:

Mazz, if the parts don't work then I can sell/give you the one off my 86'. I plan to upgrade to dog bones when I put the RPM shock on, I have the 89' link that is required already in my garage.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I guess I've missed this discussion.  All you need to convert the early model rear suspension linkage to a dogbone type is the link off a dogbone-style FJ?

Correct, 89' link and 89' + shock with the required 89' bits... Got the info from Father Pat, bless that FJ bastard....

Not just any dogbone style FJ....use the '89-'91 relay arm. In '92 on, Yamaha offset the shock and linkage to make room for the ABS module. Discussed in Marc Rittner's TAce swingarm conversion article on Barry Edward's UK site.
Also, you need the short body shock with the clevis bottom, used on the '89 on, and of course, some 'bones.

[edit] David, I had to go thru this exercise to fit the T-Ace swing arm on my '84....

Rear ride height adjustability... Getting more weight on the front end enhances handling.
