Headlight Aimer.

Has anyone got a photo / picture/ link  of the headlight aimer that is under the dash that I can have a look at. Seems after yesterdays adventure with a piece of broken fairing I discovered on the other side that the headlight aimer is not funtionable.  :mad:It just spins and does sweet didly squat, nothing. :negative: Cant adjust the light. Unless I put an air shocker on it or a big weight. A piece must be missing as it doesnt reach the light. :dash1: On a plus, I have nearly eliminated all the rattles on the fairing and my mirrors work :good2: thanks . Jeff

I have my fairing of, but this is the only pic I've got of the headlight. I might take some other pictures later today if you wish.

Thanks Ken, Im uncertain as to what the piece actually looks like because its not there?  :unknown:I have the rod with the Knob you adjust but it stops just before the Headlight. I like the adaptor that was made up but am uncertain if there is any easier way to do it as I think my fairing is going to have a moment of "Yeah go on,  :diablo: I dare you to pull me apart with out breaking moment"  :negative:. Some how I think its going to be one of those love hate jobs again. :mad: Lots of Vallium and meditation required.  :flag_of_truce:

Jeff, go to Boats.Net (do a google if you don't know the web address) and do a search for your year model FJ. Find "Headlight" in the parts section and there is a drawing of the adjuster. It's not all that clear but it may give you an idea what's missing from yours. Just by chance I just repaired mine 2 days ago. One lug on the uni joint had broken off and the adjuster fell in half. I ended up fabricating a new half uni and riveting it back together. I don't ride after dark so I hadn't bothered to repair it until now, but I'm heading to the Rally next week and thought I should fix it in case I end up riding in the dark and have to adjust the beam height.                                                          Regards, Pete.

pete. many thanks for that. I looked up the part and there it was. Complete with part number. Wierd that a Boat site covers motorbikes. Either way im happy.. regards jeff

Thanks for the photo FJ monkey or is there another name we can call you by ? Getting one of the said parts is proving more than a headache. Suddenly the wreckers I have rung up are on to the fact they are sort after and wont part with them unless its for a whole light setup. Bollox to that. Would rather put an air shocker on the bike than pay a ridiculous price for the part or ride in daylight hours instead. Thankfully im in no hurry yet. Got a couple of places to try next week and see how things go

ill have a look, i may still have the part your after, is it just the piece from the light to the uni joint then the actual shaft
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

Thanks  for that. Yeah I still got the shaft and knob. Am dreading having to remove the fairing. After the other days effort I think Im going to be looking for more bits. I had to stop at the side cover as I suspect something sinister behind it. However if its got to come off then so be it. just got  to take lots of vallium before hand and meditate. Hah.

fairing isnt so scary once you've removed it 6 or 7 times, , anyway,  ive just had a quick look through some of my fj bits,  couldn't find the complete headlight as yet, will look tomorrow, but i found the front half of the uni joint that goes onto the headlight itself,  now if you still have the other half attached to the adjuster shaft your in luck,, if not ill search again,,

Dread not, once you have it off and demystified the process it really is simple. The worst part of these jobs is usually the anticipation. I've had mine off dozens of times chasing vibrations  until I fixed the engine mounts and got rid of the source.
I did finally find and easier and faster way to get it off which I posted a couple of days ago.

Wreckers have ALWAYS been like that with parts. If he sells you the adjuster he no longer has a complete part and that makes it harder to sell. Try and but a window glass for a car door by itself. The only exception is when the rest of the part is already damaged.

you can get some really flash uni-joints like that from model shops, I build a lot of R/C planes and boats, you could knock up something quite quickly and probably better than the OEM bit.

I use them to hook up prop shafts on the R/C tug boats, they are light, strong and easy to work with you can get Ali, SS or plastic, you could even use a SS prop shaft for the rest of it.

Don't just think bike when you need to make something up.
