I bought my fj a few days ago. It was forgotten about In a storage locker for at least 8 yrs
I was told. The tires are Avon venoms lots of tread that date code to 2000 I think. So that's
About right. It shows 37700 and is in ok shape. I bought it from a guy who bought it from
Storage company and got to running but didn't ride it. Cleaned tank, new battery, cleaned carbs.
Does not run very well now but hopefully it will. I'm really excited, I have wanted one for years
And found one local, payed $1000. Glad to have fjowners to help, cause I don't even have a manual yet.
I don't know how to add picture or even if I'm posting in right place. Thanks dave

Hi Dave and welcome to the community!
The FJ truly is a product of heaven :good2:
Looks like you have gotten your self a very good deal on that bike! You have definitely come to right place in search of information.
My first tip to you, after becoming a member of course, is to get you self a manual. It's well worth the investment. Min is only 6 month old and almost worn out  :wacko3:

You are posting right place to say welcome, and here is how to post pictures: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=341.0

Cheers
Ken

Ps. watch out for the moditus state of mind  :sarcastic:
You know what i mean when you get it
Whant to check out my photos on the bike??

Welcome Dave, what year is your FJ? You can down load a manual here in the files section. if your bike sat with fuel in it then the carbs need a good cleaning to run right. I am currently rebuilding my 28 year old carbs. Its a wonder how I was getting 50mpg on these things in the condition they are in. The FJ is a great all around kind of bike and this is the place to help you get the most out of her. Kookaloo brother.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome ! Sounds as if you got a good project. This is the best place in the world to help you along with your new bike. Is this your first bike or in addition to ? These FJ's seem like the old F-4 Phantoms and two stroke motorcycles, the more you run them the happier they are. You let them sit for extended periods of time and they get cranky :). Nothing some TLC will not cure. Most parts are still available which helps immensely. The FJ's were sold world wide so the depth of knowledge here is as good as it gets. Post some pictures as time go's by.  :good2:

Good for you Dave.
Get the basics done. Check the valve clearances, clean and sync the carbs, fresh oil/filters and plugs. Flush out the hydraulics (MityVac)
and... watch those 13 year old tires. When in doubt, get new rubber. The cost of new tires is much less than the cost of skin grafts.
Change out your old oem rubber brake lines to stainless steel braided lines as soon as you can.

We have lot's of good info. and tips, here for you to peruse.  Cheers! Pat

:hi: Hi and welcome Dave...A great project by the intro' you have posted :good2:

Where on Gods earth are you located :scratch_one-s_head:

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in an attractive & well preserved body...but rather to slide in sideways, body completely worn out and and with your last dying breath screaming, "HOOOYA LIFE, lets try that again"!!!

Welcome to the group Dave. With the bike sitting idle for 8 years, you may consider replacing a lot of the rubber items, Brake hoses, Clutch hoses, Fork seals, Carb diaphragms, Tires, etc. Many of these items may be very brittle and show signs of cracking.

:hi: welcome aboard the nut house express,  as some have said change the rubber before ridding as it may not work as it should do the upgrades so u can get the 17" tyres a better selection, then ride the pants off her :yahoo:

I assume that you opened the airbox when you cleaned the carbs.

You'd be surprised how much crap mice can drag in there.  DAMHIKIJKOK?    :shok:

Hello again, I can't believe the great feedback on fjowners, it's been a few since I introduced myself,
My wife and the dogs and me left on vaca the day after I bought my Fj. We hail from liberty lake Washington
On border between wa and Idaho. Outside Spokane. I have a 10k mile gl1000 , but that's old news now that I scored the bike I've wanted forever. Here I sit in a fancy hotel/motel in sunny Indian wells and all I want to do
Is get home and tear into my FJ. The more I read from you guys the more I realize I have to do to try and
Bring my bike back from hibernation. I think it needs a lot, but I'm up for it.ive got pics I'll try to post.
Again, huge difference from ngw site, thanks for making me feel welcome. Dave
