Here's a picture of one solution for a tail bag.  Not the best solution, but inexpensive and functional.

This is the tail bag: http://www.mandmcycles.com/default.aspx?PartNo=102115&gclid=CLW8vICE07UCFYSe4AodnjUAXw

The bike had these bumpers installed on the tail fin when I bought it.

We are all spoilt for choice these days. Some of you will remember when purpose built bike luggage was almost unheard of.

This was leaving home BEFORE I picked up my pillion and his gear for an 8,500 km trip, 1973/4

This photo is from my mother's "last time we'll see him alive" collection. She took one at the start of every bike trip.

I have this Cortec tail bag, in Power Ranger Red, it expands as well.

The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Same been said of the wearer.

That was the original Bell full face. It weighed nearly as much as the bike.
