How do I get rid of this gold...

...paint on my front discs?   I bought these last year from EBC and ordered the gold ones to match what I was replacing but have since changed my mind and would like them to be silver or metal color.

Can anyone suggest a stripper (insert joke here) or some other method to get the gold color of these discs?

Arnie

Is the spider gold paint or anodized gold?
IF paint, any paint stripper should work.
If anodized, I think you'll have to abrade it off physically.  OR, just paint over it.

When I used a V-Max rotor on my '89, I just painted the silver disc carrier gold to match.   :pardon:

They look anodized, pink paint will cover the best...

Use a metal primer, then paint with your choice of color. Pink gets the girls.... Along with USD forks and scars....

This stuff is Australian made, but if we've got it there is sure to be something similar in the States.

You paint it on, wait 24 hrs and paint with what ever you want over the top.

It is about the consistency of paint and is clear.

This will stick to glass, chrome, plastic, tiles, high gloss enamel etc and leave a finish that the paint will then stick to.

I use it a lot and there are two types, one for acrylic top coat and one for mineral based.

It works a treat. I use it mostly for painting over old enamel without having to strip it first.

The simple fact that it works really well means it is likely banned from the US. Nearly all the chemicals that actually worked get banned from California first, then the ban travels East till only the crappy compliant products are left. But I am not bitter about it, I just run out and hug some trees, have a salad with Tofu and tend to my flower garden....

:hi: Simple method...Give them a wee scuff, mask off, use a self etching primer and repaint as required... :good2:

Thanks for all the input. The gold hub appears to be anodized.  Thanks Arnie.  Paint stripper did not touch it.  I did find out that an anodized finished can be removed with Easy Off oven cleaner, however I think I'm going to leave the anodize and paint over it, using an adhesion promoter as an undercoat.--thanks Noel.

I checked out the color scheme on a dark blue FJR with blue spot calipers, and the disc hubs were black, it looks good, so I'm going to go with that. FJMonkey, I did consider pink, but I think that color goes better with the periwinkle rims.

Spot on Mark, if I kept my wheels Periwinkle then I would have to paint the rotors pink.  :sarcastic:

sand blaster  :good2:

Yes, I did consider that.  I'm not sure how a sandblasted aluminum finish would look after a year or two.  ?? :unknown:

Removing the Gold means removing material, some of that Gold color has penetrated into the porous aluminum. So, do you want to remove material off the single item that is holding 80% of your stopping power? I considered the Gold (could have ordered them in Black) color on my Red and White, Red would be good, I chose to leave it on and see how I felt about it. I can always change the color every 4K (AKA tire change). Not too late for me to make them Pink.....

These are stock '89 gold colored rotors that I painted black about 10 years ago.

I wanted to get them powdercoated, but the guy refused saying the blasting media would get into the mounting buttons and ruin them.

Oh, by the way, that picture is old.  This perspective looks much better now that I've installed the RPM Oil Cooler!!
