Buying New FZR Rotors

I need to get a pair of new rotors for my front '88 FZR rim, and I'm looking at what Spiegler and Galfer has to offer (having already decided against the Chinese knockoffs).
Should I be getting a standard FZR rotor, or a wider size?

Cheers!

I have the Chinese Galfer wave rotor knock-offs. Blue dot calipers and SST brake lines. Absolutely happy with the results. I am wondering why you have discounted using the Chinese rotors?

I don't know if this will help you but I used this site to check on OEM rotor spec's and look for interchanges. In the search box type in the bike the rotor's came off of.
I am not affiliated with the site so no conflict there. Just information.    http://www.metalgear.com.au

What kind of fork do you have?     :unknown:

The FZR rotors are bigger diameter than the FJ, but the same bolt pattern as 17" FJs (without looking, 320mm vs 285mm or something like that).

I agree. purchase 88 through 93 rotors and attach them to your FZR rim. everythink should mate up perfect.

Here is a possible option. EBC is a well known and respected brand

I'm using a set of '93 FJ1200 forks and a 3.5'' FZR front wheel.

Great site, George. Thank's for the link.

And thank you for the advice, Fred. I really like the look of the EBC rotors.

No real reason why I discounted the Chinese copies in the first place. I was considering it for a while, but now I feel like spending the extra cash for quality brakes and a peace of mind...

While we're at it, does anybody know if this:
http://www.spieglerusa.com/peak-evo-brake-rotor-2341.htm

is the same as this:

Different company logos, but same rotor???

Thanks,
Nat

I installed the EBC rotors last spring on an '87 FZR wheel, have 5000 miles on them and have no complaints.

you need fj rotors not fzr.  with your wheel you need the 89 and later ones.

some guys have bought the Chinese rotors and have had no problems .

I bit the bullet and bought the ebc pro-lites and have been very happy with them. they are cheaper than the stock rotors.

ebc-hh pads as well.

Just bought a set of EBC Pro-Lites for the late model FJ's.

My Galfer knock-off rotors from China. $194 for the set. I have about 5,000 miles on them and they are holding up really well.

The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I highly recommend you use the HH Sintered pads with those rotors. I used a set of semi metallics at first and got a lot of chatter out of the brakes. Switched to the HH pads and now it's just a happy memory.
